Apparently the bottom insert is just a piece of cardboard because after I took it out of the washer, I noticed the bottom was all lumped up & no longer had a sturdy base. I also noticed a bunch of mold spots at the bottom of the bin (which will happen when cardboard gets wet). I had to cut it open just to get it out and, just as I suspected, there was a bunch of wet crumbly cardboard. The product looks nice but you absolutely cannot get it wet or the cardboard will crumble and leave your storage bin moldy & smelling bad.
