I was apprehensive about this product because these things have more negative reviews than positive ones. And testing results were very inconsistent and wildly fluctuating at first. Then I discovered that timing was absolutely critical. When you press the start button, the display scrolls through the following: 3 - 2 - 1 - dip - on When it gets to "dip", you'd better be dipping the test strip right then. And when it says "on", you'd better be putting the test strip into the device. Once I started adhering to this regimen, I started getting consistent, reasonable results. **Q: Does it work for baquacil pools or just chlorine?** A: It measures chlorine, alkalinity, and ph. **Q: can i use the brand test strips I already have with this reader** A: Depends on what brand you have. Do you have the ones that work with this device? **Q: Does it measure acid too** A: It measures pH, pH <7 is considered "acidic". However, I do NOT recommend this. I tried it several times, if it read at all the readings were way off when I remeasured and compared to my other test kit and test strips. The readings varied if measured the same water right away.
