what are the dimensions?

It is 8.5" wide and 12" long. The height varies from 2.25" at low end to 3.75" at highest end. I bought this for my daughters truck. She loves it. Very affordable and thick plastic.

what can you use to secure it in the car?

the design of carrier and weight of items in carrier, coins, cd's, etc , keep carrier secured to carpet.

Will this fit 2003 Mercury grand marquis center hump?

My guess would be yes because that's a rear wheel drive car and would have a pretty substantial center hump. Mine worked fine for a front wheel drive buick park avenue which I would think has a much smaller center hump. Its a pretty nice product and excellent value.

How large is the large square area?

It was sized to hold CD cases upright on edge and there are about 10 slots total. Hope that give you an idea. A wallet fits in there with room to spare.
