Infrared Touchless Hand Waving 12-24VDC 3A On/Off Sensor Switch for LED Lights, Cabinet Kitchen Closets Pantry, Avoid Catching Virus and Germs

I think this is the item my husband used when he put a long strand of tiny lights around the inside of my pantry. I never have to turn a switch on or off when taking things out or putting things in the pantry. i just run my hand over the switch and it goes on or off. I love it!

Item worked well for some time. Now the lights fail to stay on. Without any activation of the hands or any other item the lights turn off after a short period. I have two 16" single strips on the system. Was thinking about using the warranty but for the price just purchase another brand.

Edited: Conceptually this is a desirable switch and I wanted to like it, but out of the box, and needing to remove the plugs, it failed to function as desired. While hand waving elicited a flicker, it failed to work properly as a switch. There is no indication on the switch or the included spec sheet that power needs to flow directionally (one side must be connected to the power supply in order to have power to actuate the switch). After reversing the connections, it did behave properly and works well. It would be helpful to make this clear on the switch although it makes sense that it is designed to use input power to activate the switch mechanism. Dropping a star for the lack of clarity.

Used it for LED light I have installed behind my bathroom mirror. Contactless is great. Just wave of your hand in front to turn on and off. No dimmer but not a big loss.

This switch doesn't work very well unless it's mounted horizontally. I tried mounting it for under cabinet lighting so my wife could wave her hand beneath it to turn the lights on/off, but it worked less than half the time and sometimes didn't work at all. Had to change the orientation so the sensor points outwards (parallel to the countertop) instead of down. Now it works fine but it can't be hidden the way we wanted.

Modified this switch for hands free under-cabinet lights, had to cut and solder power cables and it worked. Tried/failed in 5vdc application must use 12vdc or 24vdc
