Logitech HD Laptop Webcam C615 with Fold-and-Go Design, 360-Degree Swivel, 1080p Camera

I needed a new webcam since updating my LED Cinema Display. After doing some research I purchased the Logitech C922x Pro Stream Webcam since many said it was the best Mac alternative. Well, it was nice, until I tried to do FaceTime calls. Everyone complained about the echo on the other side. Sadly the C922x has no fix for it. You can adjust your speakers, and mic sensitivity until the cows come home, and (maybe) get it bearable, but I could not find the sweet spot. My friend's still complained about a faint echo. Sorry, that's now how it's supposed to work. While reading the complaint forums on Logitech's site one customer in particular had the same issue found his own fix, the C615 Portable HD Webcam. I did an exchange, and within minutes, I was back in business, did my test calls, and no echos on the receiving end. The picture quality is fine for web chats, and to be frank, seems to be comparable to the newer model, C922x. The sound quality on the C615 is great! No complaints there. Auto focus and adjusts for lighting it seems, of course make sure you use this in a well lit setting. The price is nice too! About 20 or so dollars less thank it's more modern version. The set up is easy, but you will need a usb extender cable. The grip is nice and firm on my desktop monitor, anything more than an inch in monitor width or so, and you might have problems, but the grip is firm and seems very stable, even when panning left and right, tilt up and down, it stays on nicely. And if you want privacy from shifty webcam hackers, well this webcam can rotate 360º. Just turn it around 180º and the lens won't face you. Want to go lower? This nifty little webcam includes a 1/4" thread mount for mini tripods like the Manfrotto Pixi Evo. Just be careful, the rubber cap that covers the thread mount on this webcam is loose and not attached. So if you have fur babies or human ones, you might want to toss this little rubber cap in the recycle bin from the start rather than lose it and worry. Also, this is a 2011 product and if you are a Mac user like me, the Logitech software is meant for older Mac OS installs. The site says Mac OS 10.4 or older, not later. The software available will install, but the functionality extends to where you send the files you record, but if you are using a Mac, you are using quicktime to record your videos and this isn't really a concern for you. PC? Can't say. But it works, and it's been tested, and I'm a happy customer. So if you are looking for a simple fix, the C615 Portable HD Webcam by Logitech is the one for you. Oh, and it's meant for laptops too, though I can't imagine there are many laptops out there that don't already include a webcam, so I would say use this for desktop monitors with no built in webcams. Find and download the latest Skype software directly from Skype, and the latest Software for your web camera. (You may need to know the type of computer (PC/Mac) and the Operating System (I have win7.1 64b) to select the correct software. Do Full, Default installations on both the Skype and the web camera software. Currently, I am using Zoom. The c615 works well. The focus is a little soft, and much sharper webcams are now available around $100. You may need to monkey with the webcam software settings. I found my c615 webcam was very sensitive to light, so I turned off auto intensity to avoid image bleaching. I left auto-focus on and auto-color correction on. I found that face-tracking was not needed so turned that off. You can adjust settings with the sliders when you turn off auto. Skype settings: I am using an old set of Logitech earphones with microphone arm. The webcam has its own microphone. Skype recognized both microphones, so I unselected the webcam microphone, which like all webcam mics works but not as accurate as a separate mic. The Skype Echo Test is found on Skype Contacts page. After speaking, wait until the Echo Test repeats what you said. Your picture will appear during this voice test. Logitech's software for this camera also provides self check of mic and video. And video adjustments, including lighting are nicely provided. Skype Translator Icon appears on the Skype screen after you click on the Contacts icon. I haven't tried this yet, but this is why I purchased the camera to work in conjunction with Skype Translator because the Translator function (voice to text) is described as an help for lip-readers. I will update this webcam review after I try it with the Skype Translator function. So far, the negative is that it won't work upside down and doesn't grip the monitor side edge, only the top edge. Possibly a small clamp will work. One very nice little function, the clamping parts fold up and protect the lens for travel purposes, then the camera and cord can go into a baggie.

A foreign friend of mine suggested I get Skype and in order to get Skype, I had to get this webcam. There's one that's $8 less that has a plastic lens, but I went for this one with the glass lens. The cheaper cameras will get the job done, but considering the price over the life of the camera, this should be worth the small extra amount of money. Until I make a video, I'll not know how good this camera is because Skyping to foreign countries through the typical laptop degrades the image through no fault of the camera. Both the camera and Skype were easy to set up. This webcam does a great job picking up my voice. It's in my living room and today I was calling down from my bedroom, "can you hear me" and the person on the other end could. I had already determined that I can go into the laundry room or kitchen and the person at the other end can still hear me. Because nothing has to be held, it frees up one's hands to work while talking. However, unlike a cell phone, you can't carry this around with you. If you're headed out of the house, it's better to be on a cell phone. This camera is typically used with Skype. It seems Skype has made major improvements and the audio sounds a lot more like a regular phone and a lot less like a speaker phone, which means that it can be used for most all calls. Rather than go for the free plan, I paid $36 per year for the unlimited plan and I can call not only people on Skype, but people who aren't on Skype. I now have my cell phone plan down to $10 per month and that includes free unlimited incoming texts plus 100 monthly minutes. Free Facebook messaging has greatly reduced my need for any phone service and I have no house phone. For $156 per year plus the cost of this camera, all of my phone needs are met. I've calculated the money I've lost over the past few years due to not switching sooner and it's upsetting.

I was hesitant to order this webcam based on some reviews from past years, but I'm glad I went ahead with it, so here's a bit of an update from 2022: I'm running Windows 7 on an older PC, from around 2009. 64-Bit Operating System with 8 GB of RAM. It's a small Dell tower so it sits on my desk (meaning the short 3' USB cord is not an issue from me, but be warned that it is hardwired into the back of the camera and the cord is in fact short as other reviewers have stated). I have speaker/headphone capability but no built in audio mic. I only needed a webcam for video chats, nothing fancy and was mostly comparing to the built-in webcams on my Mac machines that I use for work. This met all of my needs. Whatever was stopping older models from being plug & play seems to have been resolved, at least for Windows 7. The drivers installed automatically once plugged in, and Zoom, Google Meet, and Discord all recognized it right away. I haven't tested it with every platform available but the computer seems to recognize both the video & microphone. The picture quality is good enough for the purposes of video chat. It even did very well in my room where I am typically backlit; the other built-in webcams I've used require me to have a light on my face and the light behind me turned off, but this one managed just fine, which I appreciated! I also received good feedback on the audio quality, so no issues on that end either. The webcam doesn't have a clip to attach to the monitor so I ended up using a command strip, and this thing will be unplugged while not in use as it also does not have a privacy cover. We'll see how long it lasts, as that's the only thing left to really tests, but time will tell on that front. For now, it's doing its job.

First I'll go over the camera itself, and then how it works with my Macbook. The camera is easy to use right out of the box. You'll quickly figure out every pivot it has, and how to hook it up to your laptop or tripod. With the tripod I suggest holding the camera to the base, and then using the screw key underneath the base to screw it in. With larger cameras it's easier to turn the whole base, but this was difficult with this type of camera. Macbook related features: I initially tested the camera out with Photo Booth, and it worked great. The autofocus does a good job of keeping the subject clear, and I didn't notice it to be overly sensitive to slight movements. iMovie '09: iMovie only recognizes the built in iSight camera, and cameras that use firewire/a special codec that isn't present with this camera. I believe this is true with all recent versions of iMovie. I wish I hadn't upgraded from iMovie HD, but I don't think that would change anything. This was the tricky part... Solution to iMovie issue is Quicktime! You can record with Quicktime... Seems odd for Apple to have it setup that way, and is a bit confusing. That being said, it turns what initially seems like a huge issue into a non-issue. Youtube/Google+ Live Hangouts: This was somewhat disappointing, but once again isn't the camera's problem. To actually get true 720P video for live broadcast hangouts the Google software requires a processor with with dual cores with hyperthreading/dual threading or a quad core processor. It doesn't say this upfront. It just says that you need a dual core processor. I have a standard dual core processor, so my video quality was cut in half. Like many things with Youtube/Google I believe they built in this feature to keep every person from uploading high quality material. It's a free feature they offer, but they don't tell you upfront that you better be popular/wealthy if you want to get high quality video. They do the same thing with standard video. They suggest uploads at 8,000 kbps unless you have an "enterprise quality connection". Then they'll allow you to upload up to 50,000 kbps. That's over 6X the video quality, and is made available to their big earners. This makes it difficult when starting out on Youtube. In conclusion. The webcam is a great product, but understand your system(s) requirements.

Super easy to use--just plug it in and Windows 10 auto installed the driver. This is THE reason I went with a "name brand" rather than a lower cost generic one--I wanted a "hassle free" experience. I played with Skype and Windows Camera apps and for my needs, it'll work fine (a video conference call with a family member in the hospital). When the video changed a lot (like moving my head), there was a noticeable lag in Skype. Could be caused by compression algorithm (it only sends changed information), the internet, or a low? framerate (30 fps). Lag was less noticeable in the Camera app. I couldn't find fps/resolution settings in Skype, but did find them in Camera. I was surprised there wasn't a setting for 60 fps (with lower resolution, like 720p). I confirmed at the Logitech website this device doesn't support 60 fps. To me, the picture quality appears to be a bit grainy. It's because there doesn't appear to be a lot of levels of color. This could be the webcam, or the app. Can't tell. Autofocus is nice--it appears that it can see your face and tracks that. Cool. Now for the most annoying part. I plugged it in again, and...no device found. THAT's unacceptable. USB devices (and drivers) have been around for DECADES. There's no excuse here. I unplugged and re-plugged a couple of times--no device. I recalled others saying to wiggle the cord coming out of the webcam, so I did that. Presto, Windows saw the webcam. Fearing a loose wire, I brought up Device Manage to see if the driver was getting unloaded/loaded. I wiggled the wire and didn't see any change. Maybe it was a coincidence? Oxidized connector? I don't get it. I'm hemming and hawing whether to return this. When I need it to work, it has to work. I've plugged and unplugged it several times more. So far, so good... There can be a fair amount of stress on the cable coming out of the webcam during storage. There is a stress relief, but it is too short in my opinion--just transfers the stress a quarter inch away. Coming out the side would be best, but what if your PC is on the other side of your monitor? I think a clever mechanical engineer should've been able to come up with something better.

2019 purchase. purchased originally for skype with friends/family. never really use it. its fine. i have it plugged in 247 so the deep state can keep me in their spank bank; trueman all day every day. product no issues after several years of use. average camera quality. plug and play.

Works well and auto-install. Value for money and good for virtual meetings.

I bought this for Covid when we all started working from home. Almost 5 years later this thing is rock solid. The picture is amazing the noise reduction is amazing. I don’t have to use a dedicated microphone because the mic on this thing is so good everybody can hear me perfectly. Used with Windows 10 and 11, zoom, ms teams , never any problem. You can waste your money on cheaper alternatives if you like, or you can just buy Logitech quality product. It won’t let you down.

I had originally ordered this when I had a laptop, but it crashed and now I'm using a very old computer. For the laptop, it was perfect for what I needed. I could take pictures and videos at the click of a button with excellent quality. Now for my old computer, I was very happy to learn that It worked on such an ancient piece of machinery. Although there were a few missing features. The controller panel no longer works and I cannot take videos even with it on the lowest quality. So if you have an older computer be prepared to not get everything that is advertised. For all up to date machinery this product is a dream. The picture is clear and the blue 'on' light is handy to know when your camera is in use. The built in mic. is surprisingly sensitive and can filter out background noise from a relative distance to the speaker. I would recommend this to any who is looking for a high quality web-cam for a decent price.
