It would have worked well enough for basic chamfering or shooting without these changes, but I liked the way it looked too much to let it sit, and the cast iron body planes are not fun to use in the winter. Takes a bit to dial it in just right but what plane doesn't. I used these on walnut and poplar so far and for smoothing on hardwood I am very pleased with the results. Sturdy and the blade never slipped out of alignment.
