The stories are basic and bare bones. If your child is used to reading longer, more well written and detailed stories, those would be a snore. I went with this reader because the stories seemed to be longer and more advanced. I was right - this is perfect for her. The stories are just the right length (done in 4-5 minutes I would say). My daughter takes a while to get the hang of certain electronic toys and this one she figured out very quickly. It is very intuitive and simple to use, and makes a pleasant chime sound when it is time to turn the page. There is an option to do songs and my daughter loves playing these and dancing around. The sound quality can actually be quite loud if you want it. And it is very clear. My only criticisms would be 1) I wish the stories would be read a tad bit slower and 2) I wish the illustrations were more interesting and detailed but these are small factors. Overall this is a GREAT set for kids. I read somewhere that it is for ages 2-5. A two year old would probably be too little to really enjoy this; I would say this is probably ideal for ages 3-6.
