It's great for heavy duty sewing, and also quilting as you can lower the feed dogs on it. It's a straight stitch machine so I'll still need my brother for fancy stitches but not a problem. It's a workhorse of a machine and sees great. My only disappointment is that it came with a walking foot rather than a free motion foot which I'd have preferred....costs £40 for the foot so another cost factor on top of the voltage converter I needed to buy.
