## Overview

The Garmin Descent Mk2i is a premium watch-style dive computer featuring a 1.4” sunlight-readable color display, up to 80 hours of battery life in dive mode, and SubWave sonar technology for integrated air pressure monitoring on up to 5 tanks. Beyond diving, it functions as a multisport GPS smartwatch with advanced training metrics, wrist-based heart rate and Pulse Ox sensors, Garmin Pay, music storage, and smart notifications, making it the ultimate device for professional divers and active millennials who demand performance both underwater and on land.

## Description

Track your breath and depth with Descent Mk2i, the watch-sized dive computer. It features SubWave sor technology for integrated tank pressure monitoring on up to 5 tanks when paired with the Descent T1 transmitter (Additiol equipment (sold separately) and device pairing required), making it ideal for instructors or group dives. Descent Mk2i comes with ABC sensors with an underwater 3-axis compass as well as surface GPS capabilities to mark your entry and exit points (GPS tracking does not work underwater). On land, Descent Mk2i doubles as a premium multisport GPS smartwatch with multi-GNSS support, multiple sports apps, wrist-based heart rate monitoring estimates, Pulse Ox (this is not a medical device and is not intended for use in the diagnosis or monitoring of any medical condition) sensor, advanced training features, Garmin Pay payment service (not all countries and payment networks are eligible), music storage, smart notifications (when paired with a compatible smartphone) for calls, texts and calendar alerts and more.

Review: LOVE MY GARMIN - I have owned 2 garmins Mk 1 and Mk 2 I have really enjoyed both of them, and only got rid of the MK 1 to upgrade to the MK2 which offered a smaller, more feminine design- unfortunately this came with the price of a little decreased battery life, but still a great watch- I probably wouldn’t have upgraded, but my Apple Watch was broken and I was wearing my MK 1 everyday as a smart watch and as a petit woman it looked a little funny. I digress The MK 2 offers air integration, if you’re into that kinda thing- I’m an old school SPG girl myself. Yes the gps doesn’t work underwater ie you can’t swim randomly in one direction and Siri won’t turn on directions and tell you how to get back 🤪but, it drops a GPS marker with EXACT coordinates of your entry and exit points (coordinates go all the way to like the 8th decimal place). And there are several screens once the computer enters “dive mode” one of which is a very detailed compus. Prior to my first MK1 I had a very basic scuba pro dive computer. Every time I wanted to change my nitrox percentage, or alter any dive perameters, it was hard to use and not intuitive. The garmin is easy to use and very intuitive. I can also screenshot some photos of the app and show you how the GPS coordinates pull up- but you can also access them on the computer itself. It’s got lots of other great features- HR, RR, SPO2 analysis and calculates an exact % of N2 and CNS 02 toxicity in blood. It can also be used with other sports including kayaking, paddle boarding, running, or anything you wanna use it for. You can also pay extra to get color weather radar and lots of other apps. Garmin also offers the opportunity to set up emergency contacts who can access your latest gps info in case of emergency. (Yeah if you didn’t make it back to the surface you wouldn’t have a second mark) but if you are lost and your computer is still working on the surface you can manually drop GPS pins at any time and I’m assuming your emergency contact would be able to see them. It has lots of great features. Just takes playing around with it and getting to know your computer. I’ve done about 100 dives with Garmin now and I’m never going back! I need to get garmin to sponser me lol. I’m a huge believer in their product.
Review: Great asset for divers with multiple sports interest. - I had purchased this as a backup dive computer for a recent trip after my older computer used as backup finally failed. I quickly moved this to my primary computer because of its attractive watch face and the information it provides. Dove this watch in Cayman Brac and was impressed with the detailed dive log that included the location on a map of where the dive took place. Diving with Nitrox mix was no problem with this watch. Several days into diving our dive day was cancelled due to high winds and small craft warnings. As an avid cyclist, I opted to take one of the resort's complimentary bicycles (the old one-spd coast-brake models) on a ride from one end of the island to the other. Using my phone and my RidewithGPS App, I was able to download a local ride map from the island to my phone and then import it to the Mk2. This saved me a number of wrong turns down deadend roads while giving me a moving map of my ride along with distance and other data. Upon completing the ride, I had again a record of that ride on my Garmin Connect App, including a map overview of the route and lots of fitness data regarding the ride. I rate the sleep monitor down on this because it's really not practical for wearing during sleep due to the large size and weight of the watch (at least for me). I was so impressed with the performance of this watch, that I ordered a full suite of Garmin products to fully monitor my fitness and exercise data upon my return home. I'll be giving my thoughts on those products when I use them. I have received the first of them today - the Vivosmart 5, which I bought primarily for my indoor cycle trainer and for sleep monitoring because it is lightweight and sleek. I highly recommend this diving computer and multi-fitness watch.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice if pricey hybrid of a smart watch and dive computer
*by G***R on December 1, 2021*

Used this on a number of casual (air, 25m max) dives and so far I am impressed. It's a good dive computer with better connectivity and export features than some of the Mares devices I had used before. Having a GPS on the dive computer is nice for entry/exit points and the APNEA functionality work well. Display is easy to read at the surface and in the water. It's also a good smart watch. I am/was mostly an Apple Watch user and Garmin's product is impressive. Flexibility of custom watch faces is far ahead of Apple, some tracking features are more precise and most alerts from an iPhone show up fine. Garming's apps are a bit of a mess (you need 3 separate ones) but they are functional. Watch UI for configuring the watch and the apps is terrible and the logic of what the different buttons do is hard to fathom, but you don't need it that much. Battery life is amazing and for me runs at about 2 weeks. Overall, this is a great dive/smart watch hybrid. For a normal day at work, I'll continue to use the apple watch but for outdoor activities and vacation this is now my main watch.
