These sights are patterned after the Foolproof. They have the same strength, lightweight, and neat appearance, but without the micrometer adjustments. Designed for rugged hunting use, the 5D sights are dependable and accurate. The upper staff of the Williams 5D sight is readily detachable. It is only necessary to loosen one screw so that the upper staff slides easily in the close-fitting dovetail. The angular bushing locks this upper staff in a positive manner. A set screw is provided as a stop screw so that the sight will return to absolute zero upon detaching and reattaching. Back in the day, when you wanted a state of the art iron sight, you bought a Williams. I very recently bought a Benjamin 392 air rifle, and before I received it, I ordered this Williams 5D sight. My dad mounted virtually the same sight onto a Winchester Model 1894 carbine almost fifty years ago, and it has always worked quite well. Still does. When I received the sight, it was at most a ten minute job to mount it onto the 392. Obviously, it was designed for this rifle, however, that doesn't always mean it will fit without futzing around. No futzing here at all! There were only the most rudimentary of instructions, but if a guy can't suss something like this out, he just needs to take it to someone who can, so it was the easiest of installs. I used just a taste of Loctite 242 on the screws, then went out to sight it in. Again, another surprise! It shot almost exactly to point of aim right out of the packaging! Maybe an inch high, windage was perfect, fifteen minutes of fine tuning, and I'm a happy camper. For me, the aperture was a taste large, however, for shooting rats, I'm thinking that the hold will be pretty much perfect. I do intend to get a Williams Twilight Aperture down the road, as I intend to use the rifle for pest control in low light or night conditions. Overall, I'm very satisfied. But decided to take a chance. This is to confirm that it fits perfectly without filing, drilling, or other gyrations. No scope mount or other items required. Only a screw driver with a thin blade. And you do NOT need to remove the rear sight that's already on the gun. Less than 10 shots to get it "sighted in" and hitting perfectly. The whole process (installation and sighting) took less than 15 minutes. It does NOT come with instructions, but fairly easy to figure out. Your 392 does not have scope grooves since the barrel is too small to machine them in. The peep sight uses gripping 'talons' which would only work on a barrel with scope groves already cut in. You could look for scope mounting attachments for use on Crossman guns like yours. They have rounded bottom grips that are clamped over the barrel. I picked up a brand new .22 392 via Amazon and found, though the stock open sights shot fine in normal light for me. I found my old eyes had trouble focusing on the mid-barrel rear sight at dusk when sighting on the rabbits sneaking onto my property from a nearby park to eat gaping holes in my lawn. So after reading reviews and considering a 4x scope and mount, then comparing reviewers thoughts on the 392 Williams peep sight, I decided what the heck and purchased the Williams. Boy am I glad I did. Easy to install, and required very little adjustment to line up the sight after installation (3 shots). The 392 lines up more consistently in all light conditions and shoots tight patterns way more consistently at 20 yards than the stock 392 sights - and as compared with my .177 Beeman break barrel with its 4x sight, as well I might add. The 392 and WIlliams peep sight have my recommendation as a solid combo, quick and light handling, and fast to line up with the target with the 5 min addition of the Williams peep sight.
