It was evident by the size of the package that there was no way it could contain "approx 500" beads.  So I pulled out the scale.  The package weighed 70g.  Ten beads weighed 4g.  That equals 175 beads, max, not the advertised "approx 500 beads."

I ordered these because I wanted to make an emergency contact bracelet for my 3 year old just in case we were ever (heaven forbid) separated. They fit the bill, and every single number was legible without any chipping. She was able to read off our phone numbers, so they are perfect.

I can not string these beads as they are too small. I dont know what they are used for if not to make number bracelets, No string would fit through the holes though.
