I do not use the hose attachments. The filter on the back does the job and well. If I had a crawl space, I would use the hose to vent it. The cartridges are expensive but so worth it. **Q: is this one coming with both the filter and wall attachment hose accessories?** A: The litter box pictured comes with the filter. The wall attachment hose is extra. **Q: how often do the Active Carbon Filter Pack need to be replaced?** A: About 3 to 4 weeks. Depends on how much you clean the litter box. I should have known that something was amiss when it arrived and the back vent seemed a little loose. It worked well for a little over a month before I started having issues with the back vent coming off. I'd try to push it back into place and it would stay for a while. Within the last two days, it has come completely coming off. The fan on this appears to be screwed into the structure but the back vent is glued onto the structure. The glue appeared to have been thinned out/worn. I purchased a hot glue gun, unplugged the box and attempted to glue the vent back into place. It seemed to have worked. I waited for everything to dry and then went to plug the box back in. I have never seen my cats scatter so fast! The litter box is incredibly loud now. My cats have an automatic feeder and a water fountain, so they are used to items that they use daily having a bit of noise to them. Upon first setting up the box, it emitted a barely audible hum (very much like a computer). The cats didn't seem to mind it at all. Now it is loud. Extremely loud. I have no idea how to fix this and of course, it is outside of the 30 days that Amazon gives you to return an item. The purchase was initially well worth the cost of the item. It did really work to cut down on any possible smells. Now it is so loud that the cats will not use it and I've had to go back to my old litter box. I've given this item 2 stars because it did really work... just not for so long. $159 for a little over a month's use isn't very pleasing no matter how well it worked when it first arrived. If you can get a unit that's better constructed than mine, I'd say go for it. I just don't want to spend another $159 on chancing that the next unit is better. It really does help with the ammonia and other odors from the litter box. My cats didn't hesitate to use it at all. I have two litter boxes so I am ordering another one of these to replace the plain box.Update: 5/7/15I discovered a down-side to using these boxes. They controlled the odor too well and I got lazy about scooping the litter since there was no smell. BIG mistake! My cats started peeing and pooping outside the box. I finally had to remove the lids entirely, use Cat Attract litter, scoop more frequently and use a variety of measures to neutralize the carpet where they had been going and deter them from these spots. They are finally using their boxes again. So heed this warning: Just because YOU can't smell anything, your cats probably can and you need to scoop as frequently as you did before getting them. Not a criticism of these litter boxes in ANY way. They do exactly what they are supposed to do. Just don't become complacent about scooping like I didUpdate 6/7/15. I see a couple of people questioning/complaining about the noise. I have to say that the two boxes I have are almost silent. I can only hear a faint whirring sound. When I first got one box and still had a plain box next to it, my cats used both boxes equally. I don't know if the manufacturer has done something to decrease the noise or if some have gotten defective boxes but I can assure you mine are NOT noisy. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Makes a great urine scented air "freshener" *by S***H on Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2016* I've had this litter box for just shy of two months now, and both of my cats use it as their only litter box. I REALLY wanted to love or even like this box, but it's just been a failure.First, it took about a week to fully train my two adult cats to use this box. This was mainly due to the noise which can best be compared to a typical oven vent on the low setting, not loud enough to cause issues for most people, but not something you really want to be within a few feet of and definitely loud inside the cat box. It was also smaller than I would have expected. While it is plenty tall, the base is actually smaller than a typical litter box (it swells out a few inches on the sides) while my kitties are on the big side. In the end, both use it, but the bigger of the two has to go with half his body out the front and so can't cover his wastes.Then there was the issue of positioning, because of the very short flimsy cord and the large glued on fan/exhaust system, placement was a pain. If you end up getting this (which I do *not* recommend), you will almost certainly need an extension cord and a fairly open location for it.Unfortunately, those are just minor things compared to its actual performance. The fan seems to be too strong for the filter. Instead of creating a constant negative pressure pushing the air through the filter, it basically just creates a ton of air movement over the messes and then circulates that around the house.I actually thought at first that my unit was defective at first because only a tiny trickle of "clean" air was coming out the end of the filter while smelly air kept pouring out the front (I used strings and the tissue test to evaluate this because I thought I was crazy at first), but then filter got blown off the first time and the contents were very visibly squished. I tried to uncompress the contents, but it just happened again.I'm now two weeks past the max life for the one included filter, and at $20 a piece, I'm not at all about to blow another cent on this hugely over priced urine scented air "freshener".
