It keeps the darn dust out of my hopper where I keep all charcoal and smoking wood. While it's designed to be lifted and pour, it's easier for me to just take the large block out by hand, as it would be awkward to pour large block because some can be larger than the opening and allow the dust I am trying to avoid getting everywhere to get into the the grill.
