MASTERING THE BALISONG KNIFE

Being an enthusiastic of the Balisong knife for years, I've never found before a more complete and illustrative training guide than this video by Mr.Michael D.Janich( I should call him Sensei), who happens to be an US Army Veteran, and has wrote a vast number of very important knife fighting and self defense books; watching this video, you realize that this guy is for real, when you watch him perform the most difficult tricks and aerial techniques, EVEN WITHOUT WATCHING THE KNIFE!I've read before a lot of books related to the Balisong techniques, such as Mr. Imada's Balisong Manuals (a great Sensei too), but when you're dealing with manual weapons, such as the nunchaku, or the tonfa, in my opinion you will hardly learn the most sofisticated techniques and moves from books, coz they don't capture the motion showed in a videotape that you can play even at slow speed, and repeat until you've completely understood the exercise you're dealing with; it's like having the instructor at your very own living room!That's why this video is so valuable. Besides, there are not many (any, I should say)other videotaped Balisong instrucional courses on the market. ... I must strongly recommend this video if you just want to learn the moves and techniques regardless of the historical and traditional aspects (these are founded in the books);you will learn how to do a number of basic and intermediate openings and closings. Then you will progress to such visually impressive moves as the helicopter spin, finger roll, and grip and hand changes, as well as the spectacular aerial techniques-tossing your knife in the air and catching it in the open, ready position! Janich also differentiates between the flashy visual moves and how to really use a Balisong in combat (he is a knife fighting expert). It must be said, that without discipline, patience and a lot of hard practicing (and cuts), not only this course but any other video or book, would be useless. I myself have borrowed a lot of Mr. Janich's instructional style to teach the use of the Balisong with great success. I'd just have asked the Producer of this video to record the instructional speech with more sound quality, but that didn't really affect my learning process. That's why I rate this product with 5 stars. Unless you are an advanced Visayan knife fighter who of course wouldn't need this course, buy this video, grab your Balisong, and begin to spin it and flip it as you always wanted!!Mabuhay and Shalom to All!!

I have only watched the first few moves and it dies take a while to get those moves fluid. Recommend to anyone young or old looking to learn and have fun. Make sure you have a good quality trainer or Balisong/bandaids should you use a real blade.Lots to learn!

This is a great DVD to learn by. The mutiple video angles give you an exact look at how a technique is done. When he does the move at speed, you can judge how well you have learned the technique and where you need improvement. There are more advanced moves out there on Youtube and Balisong forums, but this is a great video for someone starting out and those wanting to make sure the moves they do now are being done correctly.

Good balisong video for the beginner wanting to learn basic openings. I watched youtube video balisong tricks and learned from that.

Great beginner tutorial for one of my favorite toys. There are more elaborate DVD's out there, but this one is one that is easy to watch and understand.

As with all Mikes video's this was very well done, It was easy to understand and the quality of production was excellent. The different angle shots were a plus.This is by far the best video available on balisong openings.
