Dimensions are approximately 9.5" square (perhaps 10" with handle) by about 7-1/2" high to the rim without the lid installed. Add about 1/4" with the lid installed. Lid fits nicely but intended for dry storage only. A great storage solution. Buckets are food-grade plastic. Lid has tear strip. Typical initial installation is with a rubber mallet. Lid will lock on. To remove the lid, first remove the tear strip by grasping the end and pulling/peeling off around the perimeter of the lid. The tabs are then free to flex and the lid can be removed and re-installed as needed. Engagement can be firm. Use of a 'lid wrench' or 'lid lifter' (available separately) can make it easier for those of us without the hand strength of our youth. I want the 2-gal bucket. Can someone tell me the correct dimensions for this item?** A: Approx 9" x 9" and 8" tall. **Q: Is this waterproof?** A: The lids are dry-fit with no gasket. The lids do fit nicely and are appropriate for many dry-goods applications but for liquids storage a gasketed lid is better. Some packagers will use these buckets appropriately in applications that would be vulnerable if the buckets were subjected to inappropriate external conditions. Waterproof can bean different things to different people. Some of our customers interpret waterproof as 'fill with water and turn upside-down with no leaks.' In general, gaskets are desired with liquid associated applications. **Q: Will this work as a food scrap bucket under the sink?** A: In general the industry does not comment on qualifying a product for a particular application. It is usually left to the packager to do so. Having said that, I believe others have likely done so. One caution, however, is that as with all industrial style bucket/lids, the snapping on the of the lid tends to be very firm. Removal of the lid is also something that requires deliberate effort. If accessing frequently, this may be inconvenient. A 'lid lifter' or 'bucket wrench' may make this easier (ASIN B006RXPV4Y).
