What I used until it has strong roots I pulled out of basic grow pot and reported into Bonsai soil. I did put a little bit of the fox farms soil mix with it. Just sprinkled in layers. **Q: What is the species and scientific name for this type of willow tree?** A: All true genetic willows (those not just using a descriptive name) are from the genus Salix. The tree looks like either a Salix babylonica or a Salix matsudana. The Matsudana species has a variety named 'Tortulosa'. Therefore the full name would be, Salix matsudana 'Tortulosa'. BUT then again, it could be another species of Willow that I have not mentioned here, if it is an actual Salix species. Can't tell by the tiny photo. Pretty tree though. 🫠🫠🫠 **Q: Is it just the seeds?** A: its a thick trunk cutting. they grow so fast!! you will be amazed. we guarantee them! **Q: how can i encourage more branch growth? its been some months and all i see is long leaves no branches yet.** A: I purchased this in hopes of having a beautiful willow tree. At first, it was great - good roots, terrific growth (abundant leaves). However, after 3 months, first one and then the others (I received 3 branches) started to fail. When I pulled the first one, some of the roots had turned black and had a horrible smell. It wasn't too long before the other two followed. Keep in mind, I used the recommended soil for these bonsai and followed watering directions, etc. I don't know what to tell you about branch growth - I never got that far.
