Very nice alternative to resting the thumb on the side of the pistol, where the slide can likely catch on the webbing between the thumb and pointer. The only issue I had were the two hole that rested over the aftermarket grip safety pin not lining up just right. I drilled out one hole slightly in order to get the pin to pass through it, and it solved it 100%. It's the only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, room for improvement though *by J***. on Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2018* As the title states it does need some improving when it comes to being a universal part. After 500 rounds it is now second nature on how to control the weapon with this shelf. Some will love it and others hate it, decent quality. Good fit on my XD45 4 inch, additional beavertail is a nice feature. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars WARNING - grip safety spring related installation issue *by O***I on Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2016* I like it, BUT...Well, let's get the good in first. I does what it says it does. Feels good. It's that simple.Now the bad...it's not so much the product, but the dismal instructions and inadequate youtube video (which I can't tell if it's even put out by Maglock). The major problem lies in the fact that the provided pin has to travel through the center of the grip safety and inside the center aperture of the grip safety spring. That spring is the critical part that makes the grip safety functional.I was very careful to follow the instructions and youtube installation video. Despite taking many precautions, I ended up braking the spring. Why? Well, it's because the instructions and explanations do not adequately address how that spring sits inside the grip safety. Once the spring broke, I removed the spring safety and realized that the spring can shift when transitioning from the OEM pin to the new pin. When you drive the pin as instructed, you need to make sure you apply soft taping pressure and, most importantly, you must make sure that the firearms does not shift or tilt. This was not emphasized in the video or instructions. All they mention is that you must not pull the pin back during the installation. I didn't and yet I broke the spring. I used a gentle tapping motion and did not feel any great resistance...yet I broke the pin anyway.I think all XD owners need to be aware that they may break the spring when installing this product, even if they follow the included instructions and online youtube video. Now as to the instructions and documentation...I give them 1-2 stars. The included instructions are skeletal at best. Completely inadequate. The webpage does not even include a link to the youtube instructional video (possibly because it may not be there's). Lastly, and most troubling, it seems that Maglock is aware of how likely this situation is to occur that they even state "There is a 'Grip Safety Spring' housed inside the grip safety. The following is required to prevent it from coming loose. Once loose, you have to take out the whole firing mechanism and reassemble it as described on 'Reassembly of the Firing Mechanism' on our website: [...] Well, guess what, the problem is important enough for them mention it in the instructions, but the link is nowhere to be found on their site. Really!I have ordered some replacement springs and will try to replace the grip safety spring myself. So now I own an XD45 that has better recoil control, but with a non functioning safety and potential gunsmith charges looming in my future. It's now become a $100+ upgrade. Not really what I had in mind wehn I ordered the product.This has become a tremendous headache and I will most certainly not be buying any other Maglock products.
