It's a simple concept--build the best treehouse--with logical rules (e.g. keep your tree balanced) that kids can grasp easily, and I love that no matter how many points you end with, you still have the satisfaction of having built a fun treehouse (we all compare favorite rooms at the end!).I like that the "bonus" cards (which give the challenge of building specific configurations into your tree) can be added or omitted depending on whether you want the added difficulty or not. It's also a great game to introduce kids to the concept of drafting cards (pick one card, pass that hand on, pick a card from the next hand and pass it along...). The scoring rounds add the biggest element of frustration for us, since you never know which categories will be doubled or not count at all, but it's a good element to have to learn how to deal with and be a good sport (and it can easily be adapted to simplify scoring for younger players, if needed). The treehouse rooms themselves are the best part of the game--there are some really creative rooms, and they're all well-themed within their respective categories and cutely illustrated.
