When I got her she was on Peatmoss, but she is a Rose haired tarantula from the Chilean desert. This was a much more natural feel for her and she hunts much more as she would in the wild. Plus the Sand holds heat better. Be aware though; you will need to change this every few months. Critters tend to splash water from their bowl, being in a cage the sand tends to hold moisture a lot. This isn't a huge problem for a lot of reptiles, but for tarantulas it can get to humid.
