I have learned my lesson against using enamel clear coats, and have started using this two-part urethane. Although I can make the enamels smooth as glass after a wet sand/buff, I've found that they stain easily, even with simple water spots, and need to be re-polished after anything at all gets on it. Now, I've used this 2k clear in places, but haven't gotten a chance to test it out in the sunlight and rain, but so far it sprays very well, and is very glossy even before wet sanding. Having a hardener in it makes it dry much faster as well. Very impressed so far, and look forward to finishing this car in 2k. It worked really well those surfaces. I do have some fender flares that I need to paint and have considered whether or not to use 2k in a can product on it. I'm thinking it will be best to have them sprayed by a shop that will use a 3 part mix including a flex additive of some kind. For my case I'm less concerned about the flex as I am about the uv protection. For a fishing rod, I would be really concerned about it cracking because of the lack of a flex additive in the can product. As far as I know the can is a 2 part mix only adding hardener to the paint. **Q: Could this spray be used to protect a deep scratch on a car? I’m trying to find a product that will prevent rust and protect the car through winter.** A: Likely, you are better off filling the scratch in with some filler/bondo if its really thick, sanding to make everything even, spraying it with primer/urethane paint, and then clearing it with 2K clear.. **Q: Should I sand off the cheap (1k) clear coat or should I just scuff up the current clear coat and apply this 2k on top?** A: A fresh surface is always best. I would do a fine grit sand and then tack cloth wipe.
