The metal rail in the front & back that the cross rails rest on are 15.25 apart. **Q: Are these rails 15.25" like description reads OR 18" like the the "technical details" reads?** A: The ones I received are 15.25. They fit perfect for making my 42" (knock off HON) lateral file drawer into 3 front facing rows. The cabinet came with the 42" rails so I could have had one long sideways facing row, but these let me convert that to 3 front facing rows. **Q: Will these work for letter size width? My lateral rails are adjusted to letter size and the previous ones I bought were too long.** A: Yes, I have ours adjusted to letter size in a legal sized file cabinet so there are 3 sections of letter sized. I ordered two sets. **Q: What are the exact dimensions of these metal rails? I'm trying to find rails to span 15 1/4" front-to-back, and then with say 2 1/2" between rails.** A: I have a Hon 700 series cabinet. If you have a 42 inch file drawer and want to hang 3 rows of letter size hanging folders then Hon 919492 is ideal. But if your cabinets are 30 or 36 inches then I would recommend 919491 especially if you are looking for the 2 1/2 inch space between rails. The rails both 919492 and 919491 are 15 1/4 inch long. They have hooks at the end that hook to the edges of the drawer. The width is about 1 1/2 inches more or less for both.
