It comes with a cello book and a separate piano book. All pieces are in playable keys (C, G, D Major) and can be played in first position. You could introduce shifting in these pieces if your student is ready. Notes/rests in this book (volume 1) include half notes, dotted quarter notes, quarter notes/rests, and eighth notes/rests. You can also introduce your student to accents, slurs, staccato notes, dynamics, repeats, and d.c. al fine using Easy Solos for Beginning Cello Level 1. I like using this book as a supplement to my curriculum.
