Has this hat got a hole for a ponytail?

Yes. I've just had a look. There's a big hole between the back of the cap and the band that's used to adjust the size of the head. So yes. Anyone with a ponytail will have no problem with this cap.

What are baseball caps called when they don't have the ponytail but - i want a solid backed call (no ponytail but) but don't know what to search for.

I'm afraid I do not know what you mean. Most caps have an adjusting strap or Rip Strip size adjuster and as far as I know there isn't a different name for them. The BB15C has a rip strip adjuster and would look more solid that the straps.
