My waist is a 39 will I be fine buying large

My waste is 38", I bought XL and they fit like they were made for me - I would think XL would be the way to go.

I used to love calvin klein briefs. but now they have way too much material in the crotch and bunch up. how are these in that regard?

Not having any way to compare, I have been very comfortable with these briefs, and have worn them for years. It's tough to find good briefs these days. I have purchased these several times over the last 5-10 years.
