After about 30 minutes she had already chewed the end off (an inch or so). She loves her Nylabones, and I thought this would hold up like some of those. The material is not nearly as hard as a Nylabone. I took it away from her because unlike Nylabones that when chewed do not come off in chunks, but instead more like flakes and can safely be ingested, this Astrobone comes off in visible chunks that are very easily ingested. The side of the bone that she chewed now has hard rough edges with pieces hanging off that she would try to pull and eat, which is why I took it away. I imagine it would only take a few hours to chew through the entire thing.Perhaps it is better suited for dogs who are very mild to moderate chewers, but not for those who really enjoy chewing on a bone for extended periods. I will not be purchasing another Astrobone for my Lab, as I do not want her ingesting pieces. They don't last terribly long, maybe a week. He chews them up and, unfortunately, swallows most of the little bits, which seem to go straight through him and out the other end. I assume that's okay?
