Often our municipal fields are pathetic dirt patches that aren't much better than hitting concrete. Many of the padded shorts designed specifically for soccer (and pristine grass fields) simply don't offer enough padding for an aggressive goal keeper. We got these in the XS for our young (pint sized) daughter who is a D1 travel team keeper. She was never afraid to hit the ground but would often complain about the bumps and bruises afterwards. With these she says she feels almost nothing - even on the worst fields. The only reason for a 4 rating instead of a 5 is that the waist band is a bit loose vs. the compression of the legs. The legs fit her great, but we end up having to pin the waist band to cinch it in a little more.
