I don't know why I waited so long since I loved, "Bringing Down The Horse", "Breach", and "Red Letter Days" (my personal favorite). Maybe it's because this album didn't garner much attention or radio airplay when it was first released in 2005. I always meant to add "Rebel, Sweetheart" to my CD collection but over the years, I "forgot" about it and purchased other albums instead. I bought this album on a "whim" and I am NOT disappointed in the least. "Rebel, Sweetheart" is a brilliant, introspective, well-produced rock album. Produced by Brendan O'Brien (who has worked with everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Stone Temple Pilots, etc.) really worked his magic here. There is NOT one bad track. Lead singer, Jakob Dylan (I still think he's a hot babe) penned every track and his voice sounds velvety smooth and sexy. Some of the tracks are somewhat dark and moody. A lot of them are about the Iraq War ("Days of Wonder" and "The Beautiful Side of Somewhere" to name a few) which was in full bloom in 2005. Some are carefree, fun, and catchy like "Back To California" and "We're Already There". Others are haunting and absolutely gorgeous like "From the Bottom of My Heart", "How Far You've Come", and my favorite track, "God Says Nothing Back". Also notable tracks include "The Passenger" and "Here He Comes (Confessions of A Drunken Marionette)" I think the BEST track is "Nearly Beloved" which contains my favorite lyric of The Wallflowers' entire catalogue of songs: "Last night I lived more than one thousand lives, not one of them survived..." Pretty awesome, huh? There's a couple of tracks that I don't love as much as the others but they're still very good like "I Am A Building" and "All Things New Again". Compared to all their other albums I have, (I don't own the debut album, sorry) I think "Rebel, Sweetheart" is their best album to date. It's crazy this album wasn't a commercial success 10 years ago but that's okay, because underrated albums last a lifetime. I highly recommend it! Brendan O'Brien produced, and it is solid from start to finish.
