Dark, Twisted, and oh so yummy

*by E***S on Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2015*

Mr. X is my very first Clarissa Wild read. I was in the mood for a dark read and my friend, Savannah, suggested this one so I picked it up and said why not. I am very particular with my dark reads. I know not everything that happens in them is realistic – if I wanted realistic I would just turn on the news. I wanted it dark and dirty. Gritty and untamed, vile, repulsive and extremely erotic (in a dark sadistic way). Clarissa delivered all those things and more with Mr. X.What I loved most about Mr. X was that I understood exactly why he was the way he was. His childhood was anything but. Growing up in a family of hired killers he saw things and heard things that would make the strongest man lose his lunch. He was forced through no fault of his own to grow up and grow up fast if he wanted to survive. His family didn’t care about his feelings or him having a normal childhood, they were all about the dollar. If you messed up or disobeyed orders you would be dealt with in the most disturbing ways.Let’s fast forward years later when Jay is all grown up and living on her own. Working at a not so lovely club she does what she needs to do to get by. But one night, something goes terribly wrong and this is when the story gets really good. Mr. X is back and is hatred for Jay is beyond this world and he will stop at nothing to make her feel the pain he felt, pain that he blames her for.At this point sometimes I would be confused because I was finding myself going “what?”, “who”, “why”, and “how” at every turn. Mr. X was like a puzzle and I enjoyed putting the pieces together because it made for one hell of a rollercoaster. Jay is a born fighter, one who doesn’t back down from anyone and she sure did give Mr. X a run for his money – it almost made me chuckle how defiant she was when all he wanted was her obedience. As the story continues to flow you are thrown into a world or lust and hatred, a world where nobody is innocent and everyone is a monster. It was crazy to me how Jay didn’t put the dots together about Mr. X, how she honestly didn’t know why he has her and why he hates her. And than Clarissa gives you just a little bit more and the light bulb goes off in your head and you smile. I felt like I was in on a secret that even our leading badass defiant lady didn’t know. I hated Mr. X, I loved Mr. X, I wanted Mr. X to own me.Jay has a bounty on her head (yep it’s true – and yep you will find this out if you read the story), her confusion on who and why astounds her, but Mr. X doesn’t plan on letting anyone have her, he wants her. He wants to destroy her, claim her, own her and eventually when he feels she has suffered as much as him, kill her. Some of the scenes in Mr. X seriously gave me goose bumps but that is a dark read for you. Mr. X doesn’t mind getting dirty and he will put anyone in the ground who tries to take away what he feels is his.So I am rambling, but I can’t help it because there is so much going on with Mr. X and so many things I want to tell you but won’t because it will ruin the book for you.Anywhoooo..There was a spark that Jay couldn’t quit understand between her and Mr. X. He wanted to own her and she only wanted her freedom, a choice. But when it came down to it Mr. X did something to her that made her crave him even more. So much history with these two. Mr. X’s story will bring a tear to your eye. I promise you will love him, hate him, loathe him, lust for him and understand him. He will embed himself into your head and eventually your heart.I can’t tell you what happens with Mr. X and Jay and whether or not her bounty was collected, or who put the bounty out there all I can tell you is that there are shocks at every turn. There is crazy sex, dark crimes, and an ending that will make your mind go boom. When it ended I was seriously sitting here starring at my kindle screaming that’s it? What? No? Why? How? Oh Clarissa what have you done to me?Originally I was going to rate this book at 4 star because it was dark – it did give me exactly what I was looking for but now that I am writing this review I feel like it pulled out so many different emotions and feelings that I can’t not give it 5 stars. The ending kind of sort of pissed me off but it pulled an emotion out of me and if the author can pull those emotions than she/he has done her job and did it beautifully. I am hoping we get more Mr. X, maybe even a novella (hint hint). So yes I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys a good dark read and doesn’t get too upset when you want to murder the leading man one minute and jump his kinky ass bones the next. Enjoy Mr. X, I know I did.

    Far From a Love Story

*by T***Z on Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2014*

Heed the warning, this is not a typical love story and I would hardly consider it a love story really. That being said, it is a great, dark, alpha-driven read. I read an alpha book before this and now need a breather from these manly men!Jay is a little girl lost. She is deep in a seedy underworld of sex and drugs, not even looking for a way out. This is her life, she doesn't remember the life she lived before, just that somehow she ended up on the streets and did what she had to do to survive. She is stripping at the moment while doing a few, ahem jobs on the side for extra cash. One night the job got to heavy and X showed up out of nowhere.Mr. X is a guy with some deep seeded problems of his own. He is a bit like the television character Dexter and only targets people that deserve it. He lives by a code, one the organization has given him. X knows he isn't pretty to look at, which is good because he isn't out to make friends. There is only one thing he is out for and that is Jay.Jay and X have a past, one she can't remember and one he remembers all too well. When he started this quest he knew exactly what he wanted from her, now he isn't all that sure anymore. I am going to stop here as to not spoil any plot lines. The book is violent and sexy in that order. While I like me a nice alpha, X was almost too much. I needed a little more teddy bear to show through the gruff exterior. That said, it is a fantastically written story, with twists and turns until the end. Clarissa Wild went dark and did a great job of it. X is one of those guys you hate to like (not love, as I just couldn't muster that up for him). It's a stand alone with an epilogue, however if you are looking for hearts and flowers, this isn't the book for you.

A ruff, raw and violent read. But a great story.

*by M***Z on Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2014*

I loved this. As I start this read I wondered where this was going. Then quickly I realized their was so much more to the story. Jay was always in the dark as to why and what was happening. We as the reader were also kept in the dark but still we knew more than Jay. X is a product of his parents and his past. It so blew my mind that his childhood is what it was. I had a Oh Damn moment. Really it is unthinkable.X and Jay are so totally damaged and products of their parents. Both with parents who have money, both have horrid parents, yet both in totally different backgrounds. We get bits and pieces of X and Jay' s life from before yet it doesn't tell us what we need to pull the pieces together until the author is ready for us to know. It is truly brilliant. I love how it ended. It leaves us the choice kinda of how we want it to end. Yet at the same time finishing the story completely. NO CLIFFHANGER. Brilliant.I will say that this book is not for the faint of heart or squeamish. Take heed of the warning that is in the blurb as you read to see if this book is for you.I loved everything in here. Yes their is sex, yes their is violence, yes their non-consent to a point, but their is also discovery of one's self, love, and romance of a sort. Just because it is not the most conventional of romances that we all read doesn't mean it isn't romance. It is, it's just different and it suits this story and these characters. I will recommend this book to others. It is a great journey that X and Jay go threw, one I am glad I read.
