Anyone who does electrical work probably also has guessed wrong about the wiring or circuitry at least once. I was on the fence about needing this tool, since I have a multimeter and routinely use it to check things before and during my work. But recently I was using this NCVT, and realized sometimes I'm wrong about which wire is live on a light switch, and a multimeter isn't as effective at telling you that. It's easy to identify live wires and cables, to tell if multiple circuits are involved in a junction box (maybe you didn't turn off the right breaker yet!) and it works for low voltage too, which is where I spend a lot of time, just adjust for low sensitivity or high sensitivity as needed. Overall, it's made a believer of me.

Anyone who has done electrical work knows it sucks to get shocked. Anyone who does electrical work probably also has guessed wrong about the wiring or circuitry at least once. I was on the fence about needing this tool, since I have a multimeter and routinely use it to check things before and during my work. But recently I was using this NCVT, and realized sometimes I'm wrong about which wire is live on a light switch, and a multimeter isn't as effective at telling you that. It's easy to identify live wires and cables, to tell if multiple circuits are involved in a junction box (maybe you didn't turn off the right breaker yet!) and it works for low voltage too, which is where I spend a lot of time, just adjust for low sensitivity or high sensitivity as needed. Overall, it's made a believer of me.
