I needed to update the firmware on the device to get full functionality and be able to register a battery change on a 2016 F20 BMW, straight forward via the manufacturers website. I wonder if some of the reviews on here saying it didn’t work are because they didn’t update the firmware to a version that includes their car model? So if you’re in this position yourself I’d say give that a go and try again. (need windows computer, go to ancel website, register email, download the software update file, install that file on your computer, connect the scanner via USB cable supplied and one click and it updates very quickly, I’m on version 02.09). I also got a quick response from the seller (and others on desertcart) to a question I asked.

A: Yes you can if your new battery was same amps CCA as old one no need to register if new is  different amp/CCA you need to register

If it’s your first scanner or you’re just a home mechanic who likes to repair your own vehicles I highly recommend this product. It feels substantial and well built with a rubber bump case. Works perfectly with an older BMW Z4 and Mini Cooper. Allowed me to register a new battery for the mini and get start/stop working. Also excellent for diagnosing beyond the normal P codes. Can read DME codes from the BMW computer. And also interact with various service functions, resetting adaptions, VANOS, TPMS etc.
