A: Yes. There's a small black nub, about 5mm in diameter. It looks like it's the part that attaches the plastic on the outer part of the lid to the metal part of the lid.

**Q: Can you use this with a smart plug**
A: I am fairly certain that you can not. It requires operation of a touch sensitive switch to function. It can’t be left switch on awaiting connection via a smart plug.

Easy to use kettle which is great value for money compared to other options. Wasn't sure about the larger base than the ones with controls on the handles, but it's not that big and it looks fine. Boils quickly, looks well made.

Had this product for 6 years and functions very well. Only downside is the print on the kettle comes off after a few washes so it’s hard to figure out measurements when filling it up. The silver part on the measurements peels off as well. But otherwise an excellent functional kettle which I would buy again
