The title, taken apart from context is slightly misleading; perhaps "The Sharpening Burr, the last barrier to perfection" could have served better. Aside from all the superlatives one could laud upon this book, there are a few shortfalls. One is the reference-dependence on the author's website. Personally, I find it distracting to become invested in a theory only to be told the idea will be developed in it's full on the website. Dr Kraichuk has passed and, at this time , we are still fortunate to have access to his website. Not unlike true visionaries, Dr Kraichuk is critical of alternative methods. He is heavily invested in the Tormek sharpening approach however he also seems to have been evolving alternate systems that take the best of the Tormek process but abandon the pricy Tormek mechanism. One has to study the book and website to glean this information. This is a book that has attempted to have both excellent theory and to demonstrate theory in practice. It could benefit from a rewrite, to clean up the ESL wording and merge the website references into the written text. Still, a worthwhile addition to the sharpeners' edge. Must for knife sharpeners. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent microscopic pictures of burrs along knife edges. *by S***T on October 5, 2023* This book is very technical and beyond most beginner or mid skill sharpening levels. You would need to spend (I'm guessing) between $5,000 and $10,000 USD on the equipment this gentleman is using, mostly pricey Tormek grinders with diamond coated wheels and Kangaroo tail leather strops to finish. This is a great book, if nothing else just for the pictures!
