Will I cause any harm by running my head at half power with the device

The captor can safely handle up to 100watts. As long as your "half power" doesn't exceed that you'll be fine. I've tried it myself with no issues

Are the XLR outputs line level or mic level?

They're mic level. They do not have a multi-output format that supports both XLR and 1/4". These outputs are for XLR output only.

Is this the 8 or 16 ohms version?

The one I bought was 8 ohms, but mine said that in the description on Amazon. I looked for it on this posting and didn't see it. I would definitely verify that with the seller before purchase.

Two questions jason, i have a 100w carvin v3 can i use this without worrying about breaking it by accidentally going just above 100?

100 watts at the proper ohm load is the max. You’ll find you only need to hit about 50% master level - after that the sag gett too mushy. I have Marshall’s - twins- orange Captor X 8ohm been the best purchase I’ve made in years. Buy it - just don’t spin all your knobs to 10 and you will find some real sweet spots quick. I bought UA OX box, Suhr Reative load IR, and captor x. No contest - captor x is great in the studio and live. I sent the others back and bought a spare captor x. Hope that helps.
