The purpose of this book is to provide an extensive -- practically exhaustive -- bibliography of the materials that exist on Edwin Booth, celebrated tragedian.  This enormous project is accomplished flawlessly by Oggel, whose annotations are concise, witty, and accurate.  It will save the years of your life it would take to simply discover the existence of the materials it lists.  To the researcher of Edwin Booth, it reads like the most thrilling book.It also includes, in the beginning, a short biography of Edwin.  This is brief but gracefully encompasses all of the most significant aspects of his life.  This is especially needed since the last serious biography of Edwin Booth was written in the 1950's by an incompetant, gossipy author.Oggel has done a great service to all researchers of Edwin Booth.
