Can anyone give me the measurements of a large or medium? the inside circumference for fit (but not the whole wide brim) - thanks :)

Medium - ear to ear (stretched) is 9 inches and forehead to back is a little over 10 inches (stretched). My head circumference is 21.5 inches and the Medium fits me well. The ear flaps have a nice thick tie that will keep it secure. The hat is fabulous. Great quality.

how do i figure out how big each size is?

I have a 7 1/8 size head and I got a medium. It fits fairly well, perhaps slightly large, but I bought it to wear over a beanie, so the perfect size for that. However, I hat the short ties on the hat. Too short to even tie a bow, so until I lengthen it, I can't even wear it if any wind is blowing. Very frustrating.

Does this come with a chin strap?

Yes. It comes with two straps that you can tie under the chin.

How 'green' is the green hat? The pictures looks more gray.

It is a dark green. if you select a size medium and click the link for used and new I have one for sale with pictures. I think my pics are a little more accurate.
