Makes for a great pre-treat that assists the work of the shampooer. It's a team effort. Apply this as directed on the container, soaking the spot liberally, wait the full five minutes and then shampoo as usual. Takes care of some serious spots on our heavily textured wall to wall carpet. Have noted no discoloration on the carpet which is a bonus. We use this fairly frequently because we have cats that occasionally vomit hairballs. Have NOT tried this on urine or feces. Is a winner on more common dirt/soil stains as well. Has a light scent that dissipates overnight. We run fans to expedite carpet drying. This helps clear the air.

We recently got the smartwash carpet cleaner for our house carpets as well as rugs in our beach house. While the spot cleaner did not get out the very set in stains, it did work on the more recent ones. You need to pretreat & let it sit for a bit before you can then use the machine (with cleaning solution) to clean. I love the machine, the wash, and the spot treat is an added bonus to have. This is the best product I've ever used for cleaning carpet stains and traffic areas. I pre-treat, according to the directions, then use my Hoover steam cleaner with Hoover steam cleaning solution. Traffic areas look like new on my older, light color carpet. It takes time and effort to clean carpets, but when they turn out beautifully, it's so worth it!

Unfortunately we have a dog who occasionally pees in the house on our carpet. The spot treatment solution in the wand makes a big difference in removing those spots from the carpet. I would certainly recommend this solution to anybody who has the Hoover carpet cleaner with the spot treating wand.
