Review: A Thrilling Dirk Pitt Novel - Dirk Pitt and side kick Al Giordino are back in this highly-readable adventure. The story starts with the explosion of the USS Maine in 1898. An American professor, Dr. Ellsworth Boyd, came to be in possession of an Aztec stone which could provide the location to a huge treasure. But Ellsworth is killed and his stone sinks along with the Maine. Fast-forward to present day: Dirk Pitt's children Summer and Dirk Jr. are diving in Mexico when they come across a stone that happens to be the missing half of the one from the Maine. Intrigued by their discovery, the Pitts head to Cuba to continue the search. Dirk Pitt has his own adventure to keep him busy. He is disturbed to find out that a large amount of mercury is escaping into the waters around Cuba. Taking his ship Sargasso Sea to investigate, he finds that the mercury leak is the least of his worries. It appears that underwater vents are being blown so high-grade uranium oxide could be mined from the sea floor. A militant Cuban group was selling the ore to the North Koreans for use in nuclear weapons. Now, not only must Pitt find a solution to the mercury problem, he must also stop the Cuban extremists from succeeding in blowing the vents. Plus, he must help his son and daughter in their quest to find the Aztec stone, all while staying ahead of the Cubans, who are hot on his tail. I'm a big fan of all of the Cussler series, and I especially like the Dirk Pitt books. As with the previous Pitt books, "Havana Storm" is loaded with fast-paced action and adventure. The characters are familiar, and the story builds in intensity throughout the book. Highly recommended.
Review: It's a fun read period - I go into Cussler books knowing a few facts. They will always be adventurous and entertaining, Dirk and the crew will always save the day, some of the action may be a little far fetched and it always reads fast. With that said this book has all of it and does just that. It's a fun read period. You don't have to think to deep into it, just read it for the fun of action and adventure. I found it very easy to follow between Dirk and Dirk jr, mainly because Dirk just goes by Pitt once Dirk Jr. enters. This is why I love Cussler novels, I have started plenty of books that take forever to get going or drag on for 50 pages and I stop reading them.. WIth all Cussler books, I know I can pick it up and blow threw as they will always keep my attention. I'm glad he continues to release books and I like that he has some co authors as he can release quicker :). No matter who authors them or what series its written in, one thing is for sure. I know it will be fun and good quick read. So I say to everyone, enjoy a fun relaxing read

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Classic Pitt Novel
*by D***C on October 31, 2014*

Havana Storm brings back the old Dirk Pitt. Everything about this book pays homage to the original Pitt stories--action, adventure, science, and one man against incredible odds. I enjoyed this book even more than my previous favorite coauthored Pitt book, Treasure of Khan. Whereas Poseidon's Arrow (2012) was an enjoyable book, but with several flaws, Havana Storm is perfect in almost every way--like Captain America 2 versus the original Captain America movie. The plot is a typical Cussler plot, but it is pulled off with style and skill. The main plot features Pitt Sr. facing off against a plot by Cuba to mine uranium from hypo-thermal vents, which has the unfortunate side effect of releasing massive amounts of toxic mercury into U.S. waters. At the same time, Pitt must resolve a power struggle in Cuba involving the Castros and the Cuban Army. When Raul Castro is assassinated by mercenaries hired by a Canadian mining magnate connected with the head of the Cuban Army, General Gutier, Pitt is framed for the killing but escapes. On the run from the Cuban Army, Pitt must prove his innocence and at the same time stop the uranium mining. While all of these high-tech spy games are going on, Pitt Jr. and his sister Summer are investigating a mysterious Aztec stone, which is linked to an amazing treasure, the sinking of the battleship Maine, and the cause of the American-Spanish war. With able help from Hiram Yaeger and St. Julian Perlmutter, the Pitt kids are able to solve the mystery and find the treasure. There are some notable highlights in this book. There is mention made of the Oregon, which amps up the excitement for the next Oregon Files book coming out in May. Clive Cussler makes a very Alfred Hitchcock-like cameo as a bar owner in Mexico. It is also enjoyable to see Al Giordino and Dirk Jr. fighting back-to-back against men sent to capture the NUMA ship they are aboard. Finally, Pitt Sr. gets most of the exciting parts, allowing us to see a true master at work. Overall, a very good installment in the series, and the best co-authored book. I highly recommend Havana Storm.
