## Description

Product description

Review: Works well on BMW e60 - I have an '07 BMW 550i with a stick shift that I picked up this past summer. No idea when or if the transmission oil was last changed. The gearbox mostly shifted fine, but there were times it was reluctant to go into gear, and crunched a weee bit on occasion, so I figured a transmission oil change was a good first step. BMW, of course, only recommends their own $50+ per liter solution, but this redline MTL was recommended on a couple of sites / forums @ half the price. Oil change was stupidly easy, with the worse part being the removal and reinstall of the underbody tray. Note that the car does need to be level in order to refill the gearbox properly, so that may be easier for some than others. I am fortunate enough to have a lift, so it was <30min job. It took a full 2qts, so if you have an e60 V8 BMW manual, you may want to grab a 3rd qt just in case you have some spillage. There are plenty of online videos with instructions you can search for help. The old oil in the gearbox was definitely well used, but not so terrible that I would believe it to have been the original oil. BMW has this stupid concept of "lifetime fill" with transmission fluid for the past ~20 years. This obviously discourages proper maintenance, so it really wouldn't have been surprising to find original fluid in a 16 year old car with 110k miles. I did the differential fluid as well with the redline oil recommended for that application. I did not notice much of a change the first couple trips after the oil change, but after 50-100 miles, I could definitely tell the difference. Every shift has a more "syrupy" feel to it, and the shifts slot into place with a more positive action overall. This gearbox still doesn't like to be rushed. This MTL fluid won't turn your BMW into a Honda, but it definitely works well and costs a lot less than the "genuine" oil. Definitely a worthwhile job to perform yourself, if you are able, and a great product to improve the driving experience.
Review: Worked great - Noticeably smoother after replacing fluid.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can I use this for my 2011 Mazdaspeed 3? (Manual transmission)**
A: It's in my 2014 CX-5 which requires 75W-80. Works better than Mazda MTF.

**Q: What kind of improvement will I see using this over factory in an mt82 in a mustang?**
A: Not much, it runs a tad smoother when at temp but the notorious 3rd gear issue is still present, I noticed 5th would also scratch when it got really really cold. I'm thinking about switching to ATF like most others have in accordance with Ford's specs.

**Q: I have a bmw 89 325IS and i need 80w gl-4 which one is the one i need to get?**
A: If you have a manual transmission then you are looking at the correct one which is part number 50204

**Q: Is this safe to use in my 1980 Mercedes Benz 240D?**
A: Did a search on Pelican Parts for your 240D and it recommends this fluid for your manual transmission.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked great

Noticeably smoother after replacing fluid.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I wish I'd had this years ago.
*by M***E on July 12, 2012*

I've owned my 02 Acura RSX Type S since new in August 2001. It is still the best and most fun car I've ever owned in my 50 years of driving. The only complaint I've ever had was shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. The speed of the car, whether sedate or aggressive didn't seem to matter. The ratio jump between 1st and 2nd gears is substantial and it was always clunky, sometimes grinding. Down shifting was never an issue from 3rd to 2nd. In the last few years I've tried several things to improve the shifting. I started with a short throw shift lever from B&M which seemed to help, but in reality caused the shift cable end to bend, because of the design of the lever. What had helped was the removal of the rubber bushings that mounted the shifter housing to the floor of the car, the B&M kit included aluminum bushings to replace the originals. Mounting the housing solid took out unnecessary movement and wasted motion. This past February I swapped out the entire shifter mechanism for a billet aluminum unit that definitely improved things along with new shifter cables from the same source, K-tuned. This past Tuesday, I drained the Honda manual transmission fluid for the Red Line MTL. Almost immediately the shifting is smoother with no clunky 1--2 shifts. The car has 92,000+ miles on it. The trans oil has been replaced according to the manufacturer's outline, so this last change was 30,000 miles early. I really wish I'd known about Red Line MTL ten years ago. This stuff really works. Update: August 31. Since replacing the Honda manual transmission fluid with the Red Line MTL, I've been to Michigan and back and Wisconsin and back to St. Louis. I did normal maintenance on my car last weekend. Checked the transmission fluid and it was as clean as the day I installed it and shifting is smooth, almost effortless.
