They are a cheep plastic, do not hold power for more than 3 hours, and barely light up at all. One of the lights doesn't even work. Does not offer any real illumination in the sense that I wouldn't recommend it as a sole source of light. But the eight lights we have around the perimeter of our deck look really nice from a distance and the solar power runs all through the night.In retrospect, I guess I wouldn't want the lights too very bright in consideration of my neighbors homes who are just ten feet away on either side. However, if you were attempting to light an area in a really rural area where you NEEDED the additional external light to illuminate a path or to enable you to see at night, I wouldn't recommend it as a primary light source.
