Product description kabar knives usa

Review: 5 stars through much scrutiny - This is a nice tool: the fact that it's marketed as a "combat" kukri leads me to believe (as the mindless consumer that I am) that I should be more privileged with "combat" functionality to go along with the practical use that this blade has as a tool; what I mean is, I didn't like the sheath, but it has served well after all this time and it's still in one piece. Kydex seems (and seemed) to be a better application for a sheath for this blade, yet I'm not all too experienced with kydex anyway, So my original review emphasized my desire for a kydex sheath, yet some insight from other reviewers has shone some light on the possibility that my review could have been ignorantly biased. I have continued to use this tool, as I call it, for various campsite functions. It has served me well. I used to rely on a regular fixed blade knife with a blade length between 4-7 inches give or take, but with this lightweight but useful blade, I can chop through many small branches without having to baton through them. This comes in handy when trying to quickly start a fire. I have had no problem clearing minor amounts of brush as well. The original Ka-Bar Kukri, however, works better for that obviously since it is a longer blade. The combat Kukri is a nice blade to carry in the woods, it can shave, cut, chop, and even be thrown(although I don't recommend it unless you know what you're doing). That's all for now, but I'll keep updating my reviews as long as I am using this blade. Happy hiking! the combat kukri works wonderfully for use as an icepick to break the ice on my dogs waterbuckets. In fact, it's the best tool I've used so far. The slight curve of the blade makes chopping the ice away on the inner edges of the buckets very easy. I have taken very good care of my blade, and kept it slightly oiled after getting wet. No rust so far!(*update:i stopped oiling and any and all blade maintainence for a couple years now and there is rust, but very minimal...nothing that wont wirebrush off, but truly i feelthe blade has more chutzpa now...) to give some props back to the sheath, i have kept this kukri outside(inside of an old milk can, covered from rain but still exposed to the damp and cold) all winter and there's no problem(multiple winters now) i've kept a bit of cotton and a magnesium firestarter flint block in the sheath pocket and to be honest, this would be the first thing i grab if i needed to just take off hiking the Appalachian trail....it's become a survival kukri and rambo would probably approve
Review: Excellent All-around knife. - Well there is no questioning the fact that Ka-Bar makes top notch products, and this little gem is no exception. I went with this particular model instead of its bigger brother because I felt it would shave off several ounces and fit better on my hiking gear. (It is now attached to the side of my pack where the weight is easily distributed and is easily accessible). The construction is top notch. The 1095 cro-van steel holds a good edge while providing a good resistance to chipping and dings. Just don't go attack the tin man with it and you should be fine ;) This model has the exact same full tang design as the classic USMC Ka-Bar so there are no surprises there. The thickness of the blade is just right. Not too thick so it turns into a brick and not too thin so it can be easily bent or broken. As far as materials and construction go, have no fears this thing delivers it to you on a silver platter. The sheath that is provided allows you to store the blade for easy access as a lefty or a righty. There is also a tiny pouch built into the sheath to store a wet stone. The design of the kukri, in my honest opinion, is a far better choice than the classic bowie style. Its basically the marriage of a large knife and a hatchet. This versatility allows you a VERY wide variety of tasks that you may require in a survival situation...and yes as far as self defense goes, you would NOT want to be on the receiving end of this thing. The kukri design has been around for thousands of years and thanks to Ka-Bar we now have a modern version comprised of modern materials stamped with that good ol' U.S.A mark that we are all looking for these days. If you are in the market for a good all around knife, this model will boost the usefulness of any survival pack.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is the Combat Kukri lighter than the 1249 Kukri?**
A: Chris,The combat kukri is 3 inches shorter than the 1249. It is lighter. If you are using it for a self defense weapon it is a great knife. I have both but for use in the woods the 1249 is by far better than the combat

**Q: Areall of you sure it was american made? I bought mine from amazon and it has made in china on it**
A: The box sticker: " KA-BAR 1280 Combat Kukri Knife Made in USA. Polyester Sheath Made in China"The knife: "KA-BAR OLEAN, N.Y. USA 1280"

**Q: Is this a better all around tool than the 1249?**
A: That depends on your usage/needs. The 1249 has an 11.5 inch blade, and weighs 1.3 lbs, while the Combat Kubrick has a blade 8.5 inches, and is lighter in weight. If most of your usage would be ACTUAL cutting, clearing brush, and other FAIRLY HEAVY cutting, I would go bigger (the 1249). As most of MY use is OCCASIONAL cutting, but mostly CARRYING, the shorter and lighter Combat model works better for me. I prefer the almost horizontal left-side (cutting edge down) belt carry position, using an aftermarket sheath like the Cleveland Kydex or Valhalla products, which works quite well for my right-hand “cross-draw” style of accessing the knife, and it stays out of my way otherwise for normal movement such as bending down kneeling, etc. I think the larger 1249 would be more in your way unless you carried in a more vertical position suspended from a big enough belt. Both of them are really tough, high quality knives (as you would expect from Ka-Bar).
Hope this helps.
William H.

**Q: what is the blade thickness along spine?**
A: The blade thickness is .165

Excellent quality blade. A little bigger than I imagined (totally not complaining :) ). Definitely one of my better blade purchases. Recommended for all of those who need to clear out brush for camping, hiking or hunting as it is very handy.
