I had it for 30 years in my old house and have it again in my condo. I did the research then and have done it again. For broad spectrum filtration and great taste it is the best. After about 2 years the handle broke, but the unit was still usable (handle would not stop by itself at the mid-point). Other than that it worked reliably. Recently though, my wife noticed some black plastic hanging from the tip of the spout. I inserted a paper towel into the opening and twirled it around a few times and it came out black. Turns out, the plastic liner inside the spout degrades over time. I'm not sure how long we've been drinking pieces of that plastic liner.
