You do need an extension pole to get it on to the gutter. I use it in my business so I do not scratch the gutters also so that the ladder doesn't slide to the left or right.Build quality:9/10. This is not a cheap plastic product. The plastic is hard and rigid and looks like it will hold up for years to come.Practicality/ usability: 9/10. I needed a way to not scratch the gutter as well as keep the ladder stabilized. This product has rubber on the inside to grip to the gutter as well as the outside to grip the ladder. The grip is quite good (once it is on the gutter with ladder up against it, it really is hard to slide if at all) Simply take your extension pole and hang it on the gutter set your ladder up against it and your'e good to go. I needed to move my ladder multiple times along the gutter so I bought 2 and the system works great.I did try using an older aluminum ladder from the 80s I believe, the ladder was actually too wide for the Ladder's Little Helper so you do need a narrow enough ladder, I believe most ladders made today will suffice.
