It's easy to use and I don't have to deal with a huge puddle of watermelon juice running everywhere. It doesn't mutilate the slices if you use it properly. Once you remove one slice you can change the thickness of the rest if you want them thinner. So far it's perfect for cutting watermelon, cantaloupe, and papaya. Now that I don't have to hack the rind to get the watermelon out I might even get around to pickling the ride or using the halves as fun serving bowls for fruit salads! The iGenietti slicer is the original, now it's "designed it Italy" but made in China for the company. Mine arrived with the handle scuffed but it works just fine because the main component is that little metal bar on the tip that does all the work. I used ours for the first time today and declare that this is going to be our Christmas present to friends and family this year. It took me several slices to get the hang of this device, but I never felt nervous about cutting myself (I do tend to be nervous when using a butcher knife because the possibility of slipping is ever present). There was very little waste (which I find to be a problem when using a regular knife) so a small watermelon gave me quite a bit more meat than I expected. I will treat this product as I do my knives, hand wash and dry.
