It is only a digital mixer/recorder. And I might add, a very nice one, IMHO. In order for you to use passive speakers, an amplifier must be connected between the model 12 and the speakers. **Q: What are some of the best sd cards for this? i record directly to an sd and it seems to take like 30-45 seconds to save after i hit the stop button.** A: Personally I use SanDisk cards. However, Samsung, Lexar, and Sony also make very reliable brands. And, each of these companies make cards that load at different speeds. I have had no problems with loading speed on my Tascam Model 12 with a 64K or 128K 100 Mb per second cards. **Q: has anyone used this with a Mac?** A: Yes. I have it set up to work in Logic Pro X. **Q: Is this fully digital because it looks analog?** A: Its fully digital, meaning the signal is stored and manipulated as a digital stream. However all the outputs are converted to analog signal so you can connect it to speakers, amp etc. There is an optional connectivity to a computer avalable that is obviosly digital, as well as a midi output.
