Wear Gloves When Handling Rat Traps When you prepare the rat trap, it’s best to wear disposable gloves (included in the box) and apply the bait with a tea spoon or kitchen knife. The reasons for this are quite simple. Rats have great senses and are afraid of human smell, they can often detect the scent left by human fingerprints. If you touch the rat trap with your bare hands, wash it off with hot water or leave it out in the open for a couple of days to dissipate any human smell before preparing it. Where To Place Your Rat Trap Rats instinctively use walls and fences as guides. Therefore, they are unlikely to roam into the centre of a room or garden. As such, rat traps are usually most effective when placed along a wall or fence panel and in a low-light setting. Rats use their whiskers to sense objects in front of them in the dark. Therefore keeping one set of whiskers touching a wall, they can tell if they are still on the right path. The tunnel side of the rat trap should be placed against the wall with the lever facing away from the wall. Do Not Use Poisons or Chemicals The rat trap has a strong snap which is powerful enough to kill a rat instantly when activated. So you are not required to spend money on fancy rat poisons which could harm your pets or children if handled or swallowed. Also if you follow our preparation guidelines we suggest to place bait in the tunnel for a few days before setting the trap. Using poison at this stage would increase the odds of a rat meeting its slow death in another part of your house and you would have difficulty locating its smelly, rotting corpse. Patience - Preparation Is Essential When Setting A Trap Rats will be suspicious of new objects placed in their path of travel. This certainly applies to rat traps, this could fail to lure the rodent if you just all of a sudden place a baited trap. Please follow our instructions below for preparing your trap. We advise you to firstly position the trap without any bait or setting for 2 days. Followed by pre-baiting the tunnel area of the trap with half a teaspoon of peanut butter without setting the trigger. These steps will help to make the rodent feel safe around the trap. The Advantages Of Reusing Your Rat Trap Most commercially sold rat traps today are classified as both reusable and disposable, giving you the choice of whether you want to reuse them or not. A used rat trap already has the scent of rats, making it familiar to them. This makes them more likely to approach the trap compared to a new trap which might have human scent on it. The trap can easily be emptied by holding the trap over a bag or bucket and squeezing the trigger lever, the dead rodent will drop out without any need for handling. On Arrival Your new rat trap will arrive in a box with 2 pairs of disposable gloves. Use the gloves to prevent human contact with the trap as rats have great senses. We highly recommend using disposable gloves when handling the trap. Carefully remove the trap and instructions leaflet. Place the Rat Trap along the edge of a wall or path Leave the trap un-set and un-baited for 2 days. This will help to dissipate any human smell and allow the rats to become familiar with it. Rat Trap Preparation The following steps will help to prepare your trap for success. Your trap should have now been in place for 2 days. We will now get the rat familiar with the bait. Place a small amount (half teaspoon) of peanut butter just inside the tunnel area. (not in the bait pod) Try not to touch the trap with your hands. Leave the trap trigger in the unset position. Check the next morning if the peanut butter has gone it is now time to load the bait pod and set the trap. How To Set The Rat Trap It is now time to load the bait pod and set the trap trigger. Please continue to wear gloves and follow these steps. Turn the trap over. Remove the bait pod by turning anti-clockwise. Fill the bait pod with peanut butter. (Do not over-fill) Position the bait pod and turn clockwise to lock into position. Turn Trap back over. The trigger can by squeezing with your hand on pressing down with your foot. Place the trap back in the position it was previously. Check trap each morning for results. How To Empty The Trap Your Froboo rat trap is re-usable so we suggest you empty the dead rat from trap as follows. Wear gloves so you do not come into contact with the dead rodent. Have a carrier bag or bin liner ready. Hold the trap over the carrier bag and squeeze the trigger. The rodent will release into the bag. Discard with your rubbish on bin day. Do not compost as this can create a food chain for other animals. Things You Need To Know About Rat Reaper Bird Feeders Clean up fallen bird feed: Regularly clean up any spilled birdseed to remove the food source that attracts rats. Ensure that the area around the bird feeder is kept clean and free of seed debris. Install Rat Reaper nearby: Set up rat traps in the vicinity of the bird feeder, using appropriate baits such as peanut butter or seeds to lure the rats. Place the traps in areas where the rats are most active or along their pathways. Squirrels Not Suitable for Squirrels Rat Reaper is designed for rats, not squirrels . Use squirrel-specific trap to avoid unintended captures. For rats, our recommended bait is peanut butter. If squirrels are present, use a meat-based bait instead . Squirrels prefer nuts and using a meat-based bait minimizes the risk of trapping them unintentionally Mice - Mouse Rat Reaper is primarily designed for rats, targeting their size and behavior. While it may capture mice successfully, please note that mice are smaller and lighter, which could allow them to take the bait without triggering the trap . While some customers have reported success in catching mice with Rat Reaper, we recommend using traps specifically designed for mice for optimal results. Consider our mouse-specific traps to effectively address mouse infestations. Big Rats Rat Reaper is designed to effectively catch and control big rats. Its unique tunnel design allows rats to stretch their necks into the tunnel to reach the bait. Once the rat reaches the bait, the powerful snap trap swiftly engages, effectively breaking the rat's neck and ensuring a quick and humane kill. Rest assured that Rat Reaper is capable of handling big rats with ease, providing an efficient solution for your rodent control needs.

Review: Success rate - PICTURE WARNING - CAUGHT RATS I don’t normally do reviews however on this occasion I felt it important to do so because of the success rate. I have three of these traps in an area where there is “rat-traffic”. I know this because my spaniel is constantly sniffing intensely around the area. I use Aldi’s crunchy peanut butter (don’t know if that’s a bonus(!!). I also put a bit of peanut butter inside the tunnel area just before the trap. Definitely recommend following the really clear and simple instructions, as I believe that was a bonus. I actually left mine out for a just over a week, unset but with the bait in it so I could check the bait was being taken and I knew I had it in the right place. I have had three traps down for 6 weeks now and I have caught 13 in total, 3 big ones, and 10 smaller ones, which I think are the juniors. All defo rats not mice. The traps are humane, there is no blood/guts when you release the trap. I actually poked my finger in a set trap (no rat) and I caught my finger in it. It didn’t cut my finger but the clamps when they go down are quick and grip tight!!! It’s easy to remove the rat once caught, you push the “pedal” down on the outside to release the “teeth” from inside, and the rat will fall out. I just put the dead rat in a poo bag and then in the (outside) bin. Top tip though - ALWAYS where gloves when handling the traps and putting bait in. It comes with gloves but I’ve ended up using a pair of washing up gloves which I wash every time after use. Highly recommended - if instructions are followed, gloves are worn and peanut butter used!
Review: Very effective... only one small problem - Delighted with the product, below is my first 2 weeks experience with it. Day 1 - received my pair of traps, (I will call them [A] and [B] for simplicity) , and I put them in 2 locations in the garden along a fence. Day 2 - did nothing as per the instructions for the rats to get used to them Day 3 - I put the included peanut butter in the mouth of the tunnels of both traps Day 4 - did nothing Day 5 - Went to check the traps and found all the bait gone, so as per the instructions I loaded the trap and put the bait in the green bowl. Day 6 - I looked out of my kitchen window and could see the green plastic exposed from a distance [Trap A], excited I rushed over and found my first victim! I held the trap over a plastic bag and pushed the lever to release the rat and it dropped in, I didn't even have to put more bait in as it hadn't been able to eat any. Day 7 - nothing Day 8 - Another catch in trap [A] this one still alive, so had to finish it off with a heavy object (I felt terrible, but chatgpt said it was the most humane way to do it). Topped up the bait with supermarket peanut butter as I found the included one runny and messy to handle. Day 9 - looked out the window and trap [A] not visible, I looked everywhere in the garden and nowhere to be seen 😞 I suspect it got kill #3 and a cat or fox saw it and carried it off Day 10 - Nothing Day 11 - Nothing. So far in 11 days trap [B] has not had any success, I decided to put it in the former position of trap A Day 12 - I find the trap upside-down, and lever has not been triggered, must have been a bigger animal again Day 13 - Nothing. Now 5 days without a catch I start to get concerned... have they become too clever? I decide to put peanut butter in both entrances to the trap Day 14(today) - BOOM! we have confirmed kill #3...or is it #4? To summarise: 1. In 14 days I have had 3 confirmed kills 2. Important to follow the instructions. 3. Don't give up, if you aren't getting any rats you might have to change the position or place some extra bait by the entrance to entice them in. 4. I have sadly had a trap stolen by a large animal, if the sellers would like to send me a replacement in exchange for this detailed honest review it would be much appreciated !😁

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How can I avoid killing a hedgehog with a rat trap.**
A: I don't agree. (IM0) Not hedgehog freindly but im not an expert.
It would certainly take an immature hog.
I guess use chocolate reduces the chances.

**Q: Can squirrels get trapped?**
A: A grey squirrel may get trapped. Grey squirrels are often attracted to the same bait as rats, especially if you are using peanut butter.

**Q: We caught one rat and then it stopped working, now rats go in and out helping themselves to food. Wondering if I can fix it**
A: If you are experiencing any problems with the trap not setting please contact our customer support. The email address is support@froboo.uk we can offer advice or arrange a replacement if the trap is broken.

**Q: Anyone else finding the bate being ate but the trap is not going off?**
A: Definitely. I had a camera set up watching them and they very cleverly knock it about until the bait falls out and if it doesn’t they leave it alone. My suggestion is to use something like smooth peanut butter that will not freely fall and stick a tiny piece of their favourite food in it (strawberry) hope this helps. Also a very good deterrent is to spray peppermint oil around their favourite spots. (Mix around 10 drops in water and shake it up then use a spray bottle and spray everywhere - they hate it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works well for mice and medium sized rats.
*by C***. on 27 September 2023*

Placed Cheshire cheese in this trap. Placed near a wall in the outbuilding and was careful not to touch with my hands as human scent can deter vermin from entering the trap. Caught two rats and 2 mice in the four nights that I put the trap out. Cleaned with antibacterial spray after each capture and left outside to dry each day. On the fifth night I heard the trap trigger at 10.45pm, a massive rat like scream and squealing and the trap being clattered against the wall. Next morning the trap had been triggered, it had moved from the original position it was set in and there was a pool of blood on the floor.....but no vermin. I can only speculate that this was a very big rat and the trap failed to hold it. Good trap, but ask yourself how big your rats are. If big then you may want to consider a more heavy duty trap.
