PAC Radio Replacement Interface for Select 2000-2013 GM Vehicles

I have just installed this device in my 2005 Chevy Tahoe. So far this has worked excellent. Fairly simple to wire up, makes the steering wheel controls work perfectly. Has the leads for the reverse gear for a backup camera already(this wire was not the same color as the wire out of my new head unit, it was labeled correctly but different color). Will allow you to retain the rear seat controls, and the audio for the factory DVD player. I set the chime to volume 3 and it sounds good. This is somewhat bulky and does take some work to push all of this into the dash of the Tahoe. My system has factory Bose amp, and for some reason in my mind when I was connecting all the wires I did not connect the amp lead wire out of the head unit. I assumed that since it was a factory install it wouldn't require that connection. When I connected this I had all functions, but no audio. One quick call to PAC fixed me up. They knew exactly what I had done, and was about a 1 minute conversation with the tech guy. Would definitely purchase this again.

I have used adapters similar to this in the past, but this one was much easier to work with. It was installed (I have a professional installer background as well) in an '04 Silverado with no major hiccups. I like that the chime is adjustable, the connectors felt to be quality, and the steering wheel control function works very well. The chime takes a little bit of getting used to, but the volume can be adjusted unlike the factory one. This adapter can be intimidating, but the instructions are pretty well written. It definitely helps to have prior knowledge, so professional help might not be a bad idea or at least consult YouTube. Also, because the unit is bulky, it might be worth pulling the radio to be replaced and see how much space is back there before ordering. My truck had enough space to hide and the wires were long enough to permit it being pushed into a cavity behind the gauge cluster, but it can be a tight fit.

Back in July of 2018, I bought, via Amazon Prime, the PAC-GM 11 Auto Stereo steering wheel control (SWC) interface. This was for a Boss BVCP9675A going in a '04 Chevy Avalanche with the Bose system. This was my first installation of a SWC interface, but I have done approximately 10 stereo installs spread over my 62 years. Initially, everything worked great with the SWC controlling the Boss' volume and tracks. However, within 30 days of the install, the left front speaker began to cut out for long periods. Since I took extra care during the install and soldered all connections, this was surprising! Due to other priorities, I postponed troubleshooting until almost a year later. When I finally went in, I eventually discovered (by squeezing the PAC unit) that the speaker short was internal! So I contacted PAC/AAMP, explained my issue, and was pleasantly surprised at how good their customer service is. After I verified my Amazon Prime purchase, I was given a return authorization for a new warranty replacement unit. It cost $10 to return via USPS. The first warranty replacement took care of the speaker problem, however this unit's SWC would NOT interface with the Boss like their first unit did!? So it was back to the tech guys at AAMP/PAC who authorized a 2nd warranty replacement. This one was pre-programmed and install was a breeze with everything working as it should for about a month now. So, although there were some issues with this particular unit's hardware, it was VERY refreshing to find AAMP stands behind their products and provides exceptional customer service!"

I would give this 5 Stars but there is no troubleshooting guide...anywhere. I utilized this interface with a Clarion NX404 on a 2004 Yukon. I took the time to direct solder the wires and use heat shrink for solid connections. The prep time took just over an hour to solder all the NX404 connections with the GM11 harness. One crucial step in this process is the cutting of a brown wire loop on the GM11 to connect to the NX404 harness. If you are using this combo, leave the loop alone!!! Once the prep was complete, the GM11 easily plugged into the factory harness. I made one mistake of plugging in the SWI into the MIC input. I quickly corrected and had steering wheel controls. Everything powered up correctly. The biggest mistake which took me almost two hours to troubleshoot was no audio due to the brown wire. The GM11 had the harness plugged into factory amp setting for the Bose system. The NX404 powered on fine and went through all setup but I had no audio or volume control as well as a small speaker icon with an "X" over it beside the Bluetooth icon on the display. Two hours later, without any good troubleshooting threads, I realized the stereo was "muted" and cut the brown wire. After restarting the device, I had full audio. My recommendation is to solder all wires for any aftermarket HU but leave the brown wire alone until you've tested everything. I now have Bluetooth audio, Pandora working fine, nav system, full audio, steering wheel controls and have use the handsfree option for phone calls. Everything works well with no static, no issues, no problems. I did pre-wire the backup camera input but have not installed one, so I get a blank screen when I go into reverse (future project). I did not do any "bypass" as I don't intend to push video while driving.

Mind you this is short term I just installed the item but wow everything was so good about it. The instructions were extremely clear and good. The steering wheel controls were retained as I wanted. The sub also works without issue. I left the chime unplugged as I don't enjoy annoying sounds for reasons. Onstar also works even though I wish it didn't. Very well packaged good instructions and quality materials. The price is high but it comes with everything you will need. I use wagos for ease of instal and troubleshooting. I have wired a few radios with them and can definitely recommend.

I returned/exchanged the first RP5-GM11 as it seemed to have loose internal connections. The issue I want to make others aware of is the speaker hiss I experienced with both. Both were latest versions with latest firmware. The hiss was loud enough to clearly hear while driving along in a Hummer H2 with the radio volume turned down all the way. The hiss is present whether the engine is running or not. The hiss was not engine whine. My vehicle: 2003 Hummer H2, bose sound system - OEM 6 disc head unit, bose speakers with OEM center console subwoofer, and "luxury" version of the bose amp. The LUX amp is the digital one, and I can now advise that you should really know in advance which one you have before choosing an interface like this. Google lux vs premium bose amp. See attached photo (posted by another installer) We are not talking about whether or not your vehicle is a "luxury" class model or not. I upgraded my head unit to a Pioneer AVIC8200NEX. Whether or not my new head unit wiring harness was even plugged into the RP5-GM11 module, and no matter what audio source was selected even if fully connected, I expereinced a low level hiss coming from all speakers. All my connections were double checked, soldered, and all grounds were inspected and fine. The hiss only went away when power was removed from the RP5 unit. That only happened when I chose to "power off" the head unit completely. PacAudio was responsive when I contacted them. We verified I had made connections properly. They advised me that they tested their unit with "all trim levels" and this was the first they heard of this. They suggested I bypass the amp. Why buy this harness if I am going to bypass my amp? I didn't want to spend the time or money on a new amp, or speakers either, hence the reason I bought their product. I just wanted to integrate a new head unit. For that matter, most head units can't put out the same power as the LUX amp, and then one has to be concerned about matching OEM speaker impedence with the radio's specs so as not to damage it. In bypassing the amp I wouild have lost the two rear-most speakers (each have 14ohm impedance) and the OEM subwoofer as well. A search of the internet, however, revealed others with the hiss issue. Enter the GMOS-04 unit by Metra / Axxess. I installed the GMOS (which I didn't buy at first as the RP5-GM11 seemed to have more favorable reviews). The GMOS has an adjustable gain. There is no adjustment for this on the RP5-GM11. What makes the GMOS better? 1) That adjustable gain screw adjustment. Again, both with and without the new head unit connected to the GMOS just like the RP5-GM11, with the gain turned all the way up, I heard the speaker hiss. Back down the gain just a little and the hiss was gone. Amen. As for volume, even with the gain turned down more from where I set it, the sound was still louder than before with the OEM head unit. I lost nothing. 2) On-Star volume can be controlled directly from steering wheel volume control - with RP5-GM11, you had to pick from one of a few preset levels and have to access the module to do so. 3) The GMOS is firmware upgradeable via a common micro USB cable - with RP5-GM11, you have to get some proprietary cable from them. Why should we have to spend even more to upgrade firmware? While the RP5-GM11 may not cause hiss issues for GM owners with the "premium" non-lux amps, I would encourage anyone with speaker hiss (not engine whine) to try this GMOS over the Pac Audio product to solve the hiss issues. By the way, the GMOS was not any more complicated to install than the RP5-GM11 and I actually prefer how much better it performs.

I've installed car audio and remote starts for years. Usually a Metra person, I picked this up to give it a shot since the steering controls where included in the pack. Install was fast and simple and the steering controls worked with out issue. If I need another interface PAC will be the only thing I get. I used this on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche, have not had any issues since the install. VERY SOLID PRODUCT. Also, if you don't like the door chime, or warning chime, you can just leave that part of the unit disconnected. Great feature.

Fonctionne très bien! Manque un peu d'explication pour l'installation, mais avec quelques recherches sur internet, j'ai pu l'installer sans aucuns problème. Seul chose c'est que, avec ce produit, vous perdrez la fonction des écouteurs pour le lecteur DVD pour les passagers arrière.
