This book will leave you a sobbing mess, then give you a ray of sunshine so you can recover...

This book hits you with a one-two punch to the gut. It leaves you wrecked and emotional, sobbing into your pillow, and then gives you the ray of sunshine you need in order to recover. This book picks up where the first one left off. After the emotional break-up Lorrie and Hunter went through at the end of the first book, we finally get to see what Hunter was keeping secret. Why he was so determined to keep fighting and to keep pieces of himself from Lorrie. He didn't want to be a burden to her, but he didn't realize that she needed to have no barriers between them. This book took you on a journey as they struggled to be there for each other, while dealing with their own struggles. It shows the fine line we walk when we are drowning in our own pain and suffering, yet trying to keep it from those we need and love the most. The struggle to be strong, and to remain independent, is a real one. This story addresses issues that most people will never have to deal with, and it does it in the most beautiful way possible.I must admit that I wanted to thrown my Kindle several times while reading this book. It was just that powerful. While this series has some similarities to other fighter stories, this book was completely different in the most important ways. This story had me captivated from beginning to the end. The author certainly has a beautiful novel on her hands here, and I cannot recommend it enough.

    Huge Disappointment

When the last book, Wrecked, ended, Lorrie had gone home to her aunt's house after receiving a letter from her step-father (who had murdered her mother) asking for her forgiveness and telling her that he loved her. Lorrie had tried to reach out to her boyfriend Hunter, but couldn't find him anywhere, so she left a note at his place.Once at her aunt's, Lorrie has pretty much shut down. She sleeps all day, in between the nightmares she has of Marco, her step-father, and goes to therapy. Her therapist suggests that Lorrie write Marco back, and flat out ask him why he did what he did. Lorrie needs some much needed closure.Hunter, on the other hand, has sought out Lorrie and tracked her down to her aunt and uncles. The two go for a long walk where Lorrie tells him why she had to leave school, and Hunter reveals why he wasn't there for Lorrie when she needed him. With both revelations out, Lorrie now begins to obsess on if these two damaged souls should be together at all, since she can't be strong for her in her current state of hysteria, and Hunter, well, without revealing what his secret is, can't be there for Lorrie physically.I must say that I was sooooo eagerly anticipating this book, especially after the last one left me in tears, but this book left me cold. The characters felt mechanical and one dimensional. I didn't feel the passion between the two that I felt in the first book. The book felt like it was a child telling a story- first this happened, then that happened and then it ended. Yeah. Pretty much sums up how I feel about this book. Sad. I was hoping for so much more.

The first chapter had me worried.

*by A***G on Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2015*

We begin the story with the h lying on her psychiatrist's couch *loud screeching tires sound* STOP, WHAT? Maybe this is different in other places, but around Chicagoland, I've seen a few psychiatrists, and never have I ever been asked to lay on the couch or a chaise lounge. I'm pretty sure that's a myth, which made me quickly lose faith that this book was going to be any good. Onward, because I rarely give up on a book. Only 2 books in 45 years of reading. SO...By the third chapter, this book was redeemed as I began crying."I nodded, sniffling and still recovering from the shock of seeing him. The pulse pounding through my ears was almost deafening."Yeah, I was nodding and sniffling, and recovering from the shock, too. If I were Lorrie, a regular, artist-type girl, I would be in shock every time a hunk like Hunter was in my presence.Okay, but Hunter isn't just a mountain of tattooed meat to be admired. Inside is something deeper, a man scared for his life, and just wanting to live a better life of his OWN choosing, not a life path designed by responses to his disease.I really enjoyed the story throughout the rest of the book. This is by far the best work I've read by this author so far. I'll be reading #6 and #7 in the Forever series soon, and have high hopes they'll be as good as these two, Wrecked and Rescued.Chapter Twenty-seven brings in a shocking twist that changes EV-ERY-THING. I felt sick for our MCs to have to move through such a cruel tragedy. But we do get a lovely HEA at the end.I'm not sure how these Forever books got lumped into one series, because I haven't noticed ANY crossover characters. Really, I feel books one to three should be combined into one novel. These two could remain a duet, and with them being better quality than the author's first works, I believe the price to be reasonable. Priscilla West, if you're reading this, I hope you'll reconsider the way you present your first three books. They're a bit of a gouge into your readers' pocketbooks.
