Mine is brass and I want that since no rust and still easy to read . Can read both outside and inside measurements with very accurate easy reading . I have several calipers but for its' size you won't beat it . Measures from 1/32 to 4 inches or 1 mm to 100 . This tool is made in Germany and finely tooled. 30 years ago it was sold by the by fine tool salesmen to the best Automotive Tool Shops in the US.
