Maverick: Satan's Fury MC (Book 1)

I've been a fan of Leslie Wilder's since she released her debut novel. I've been anxious for Maverick's story since we met him in Ignite, book 3 of her Devils Chasers series. When she announced she would be writing a spin off MC series about Maverick's club, I cheered. Maverick's story began with the Devils Chasers and him learning about his infant son following the death of his ex-girlfriend, Hailey, who was Lily's sister (the heroine in Ignite). Lily has guardianship of the baby, and Maverick gets custody back in that book.This book begins with Maverick back home and raising John Warren. He has a lot of misplaced guilt over Hailey, her death and the events leading up to it. He constantly questions his suitability as a parent and the life that he's giving JW. An event causes him to look closer at his life in the club and how it will impact the life that he wants for JW. He ultimately makes a very hard, but selfless decision. Little did he know the chain events that that decision would kick off.Henley is a college student and the good-girl sister to Cassidy, Satan's Fury MC's clubhouse bartender. She is all about studying hard, getting good grades and working at her job. She and Cassie are very close, but they couldn't be more different. An innocent errand puts Henley in the wrong place at the wrong time as the sole witness to a blatant attack on the club. As a result, she is forced into hiding within the Satan's Fury clubhouse under the watchful eye of Maverick. She is drawn to his brooding intensity, and it becomes her mission to lighten him up a little. While initially annoyed by her silliness, it doesn't take Maverick long at all to start giving as good as he's getting. I loved watching Henley slowly chip away at the cloak of guilt, depression and anger that swirled around Maverick. She slipped right past his defenses and burrowed deep; he was powerless to stop it and he didn't even try. Gah! I just adored this couple!A trip cross-country, hours and hours of one-on-one time away from the club, and Henley's unwavering support during an incredibly difficult time in his life, open Maverick's eyes to what is right there in front of him, and they return home as a couple. Henley, never one to sit back and be taken care of, wants to help the club she's come to love, she wants to do her part, and she wants to get answers for Maverick. She and Cassie set a plan in motion that isn't the most well developed plan, and, of course, it doesn't go exactly as it was intended to go. Maverick is reliving his worst nightmare, but the club did manage to get a solid lead out of the girls' hair brained scheme.I absolutely loved Henley and Maverick together. She was exactly what he needed, and she clearly brought this man some much needed peace. Theirs was no insta-love. Oh, there was definitely attraction - crackling, unmistakable attraction - but it took some time for Maverick to open up to the possibility of "more" with Henley. The build up of their relationship was perfect! It was sweet and sexy and paced precisely as it should have been. This couple's back-and-forth banter was fantastic, and they had a natural playfulness together that was perfect and exactly what Maverick didn't know he needed. (Their practical jokes on each other were hysterical! "Hen- LEY !!") Nothing with this couple was ever forced, everything about them was effortless and organic. I loved Maverick and Henley so, so much!This book lays the groundwork for the rest of series. I literally yelled "NO!" when I realized the was book coming to an end, and I was left wanting more when it did. I am eagerly anticipating the next book and those that will follow in this series! I adore Leslie Wilder's writing style. She never fails to pull me right into the world she's created, and I cannot help but get caught up in her stories and characters.Another fantastic book by the talented Leslie Wilder, kicking off what promises to be a fantastic MC series! Great job, Leslie! I absolutely can't wait for more!!

While this could be read as a stand-alone, I HIGHLY recommend it be read after the prequel, Summer Storm, and in conjunction with the Devil Chasers MC (DCMC) series, as there are numerous crossovers. I definitely consider this to be a PREREQUISITE before The Long Road Home, a novella in the DCMC. There are multiple reoccurring characters, concurrent and consecutive timelines, and overarching themes. The one common thread seems to be a real lack of including any type of scenes or information from previous stories, even when they are relevant to a particular story. So that is the last reason I recommend reading these in publication date order.** This is a darker themed MC series. There are scenes that may be difficult for sensitive readers. Examples are listed below. If you have not read any of the previous stories in the current or DCMC, the following may contain spoilers. **Between the novella and this story, the world building / story universe is solid. The MC in this series are one percenters and has a darker theme, which is apparent early on. The characters are interesting and it quickly captured my attention.This is well written story, with only a couple of grammatical issues, but nothing difficult to interpret. I didn’t find any glaring timeline or character omissions, but I always want more descriptions of everyone since I am a visual reader. Which is why I like to mention any potential issues found, for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.In this story Maverick is dealing with a lot of stress. His club is under attack by an unknown group. He has just been made the Sergeant In Arms (SIA) after one of his MC brothers was killed by this entity. Maverick is also tortured that he couldn’t save his ex-girlfriend who developed a drug problem and later died of a drug overdose. Then he finds out he has a son that he knew nothing about and knows the right thing for his son is to allow him to be raised and adopted by another couple in Tennessee.Then Maverick is put in charge of Henley’s safety. When Henley Gray decides to run to the convenience store for a few snacks to tied her over while she studies for exams, turns into a living nightmare when she witnesses a murder. Not just anyone either, it's a member of Satan's Fury MC. When the cops don't believe her, she turns to the only ones who can help, Satan's Fury. Maverick has just returned from taking his son, John Warren, to the 2 people who he believes can give him a safer and more stable life. When he finds out a fellow member has been murdered and he is asked to help protect the only person who witnessed it, more than just his club is in danger, his heart could be too.Together Maverick and Henley will discover that there is room for love also in this life.This story is a mixture of toughness, compassion and strength. It not only deals with what MC's sometimes have to deal with, but ,it also throws in a great story about a child with Downs Syndrome and just how amazing they are.Will Henley be safe or will when she decides to try and help the club find the killers by herself be the end of her?And will Maverick ever find that silver lining his mother always talked about or will Henley be the end of him?A must-read.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author, but it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed the book. There was action, excitement and lots of loving and a mystery to round the book out. Next one please.

Ich habe diese Serie von Buch 1 bis Buch 8 direkt verschlungen und bin jetzt bei den Spoiler Büchern gelandet und genieße jede Stunde mit meinem Kindle."Maverick" ist mein persönlicher Fovorit. Etwas an dieser Story spricht zu mir.Generell empfinde ich diese Serie von L. Wilder schlüssig und kurzweilig geschrieben, witzig, interessant und natürlich sexy as hell. Ich sage dazu immer: Bestes Kopfkino.Alles was versprochen wurde.

I absolutely ❤️ Maverick. I've kept this book in my library for years and it just adorned on me that I've never given a review.Well here it is.......this book is amazing !!! I've read it a million times. The story line is great the characters are great.You get a bit of everything with this book, sadness, excitement, romance,sexy times and Maverick himself is hot hot hot !!!Maverick and Henley just do it for me, I love them both.Please read it you won't be disappointed.

This is me doing a re-read of this series and I honestly thought I left a review the 1st time round. Good read and enjoyable characters. Definitely worth a read.
