Does it support windows 7 64 bit? Can I use it as a phone dialer and be able to speak hands free through the pc?** A: This is a fax modem. As such it will connect with a fax machine on the other end through a telephone line. This modem supports Windows 7 but not Window 8 (unless something has changed), even though USR says 8 is supported. Model 5639 does not support voice. In Windows 8.1 (which should be the same for XP and up), has 2 checkboxes in Power Management under Device Manager.. One to allow the computer to turn off to save power (disabled by default), and Allow this device to wake the computer (checked by default.)So, Yes. and it appears to be activated by default (which I wasn't expecting.) and based on this, it can be changed as desired..However, without testing, I don't know (but highly doubt) if it would come out of hibernation, so it would have to be sleep, or a hibrid (if it works.) --OR-- have a power scheme that allows the processor to run 1% on it lowest, saving power, but allowing the modem and any answering machine/fax software the ability to run normally, and minimize the amount of heat coming from the computer..Hope this helps, and good luck. **Q: Does this work with 32/64 XP? Does it have driver disks?** A: no it dosen't work i have a 32/64 xp and it did not come with a driver disc so don't know how it's suppose to work. it's say's built in but it won't dial up. **Q: I have a dell inspiron 3647 windows 10, will this work for dial-up instead of paying for dsl?** A: When I first upgraded to Windows 10 on my Lenovo Yoga 2, it did work. Since some updates, however, I am having trouble getting it to stay connected to the Internet, though I use it infrequently when I am having wifi problems. Sometimes with 8.1 the port would suddenly block the modem, but resetting dial-up connections would solve the problem. It seems more frequent with Windows 10. But then I am having battery driver incompatibility issues with Windows 10 since one of the updates that is affecting some other systems, so I can't be sure what the root cause of the modem troubles is. On Win7, it installed automatically without using the driver disk. BUT, a Win8 machine was another matter. The install proceeded automatically and everything appeared normal, even the modem squawks, squeals, and beeps, but the connection would fail every time. I emailed U.S. Robotics customer support and within a few days and 2 emails, they provided the answer concerning USB 3.0 ports. I disabled the USB 3.0 features in the BIOS setup of the laptop and that did the trick! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ worked great for dial-up *by N***N on April 8, 2014* So I did a lot of research on the best and easiest modem to get for my parents who unfortunately still use dial-up; based on the other reviewers I went ahead and purchased this one and it worked perfect. The plug-and-play was so easy, it installed itself but I did download the drivers off the US robotics website just in case. It's small and takes up no space which is perfect and connected to the internet without any trouble. So for others looking for a dial up modem, this is your best bet! Its affordable and simple to use. For reference, my parents have a HP desktop, with Windows 7 and use Netzero. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked right out of the box *by T***F on January 28, 2016* Came right up on my 64 bit, Windows 10 computer. Using the Scanner and Fax software that is bundled with Windows 10. Tested using HP's Fax test number (google it for testing any fax modem or machine) and was able to send and receive a test fax without any problem. Make sure you plug the device into a powered USB port. Some USB ports on computers or USB hubs are not powered. No set-up required other than setting options on the Windows Fax software.
